Pre-Order Modern Warfare 2 for £24.99
Gamestation have an instore offer on where you can get Modern Warfare 2 for £4.99 if you trade in 2 titles from the following list:
Overlord II
Operation Flashpoint: DR
COD4
WET
Borderlands
Smackdown Vs Raw 2010
Halo 3: ODST
Dirt 2
PES2010
Sacred 2
Star Wars: Clone Wars
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Which is a decent deal in itself if you were looking to trade them in anyway but Overlord II is on sale at at the moment for £10 over at Play.com so:
2 x £10 + £4.99 = £24.99
No restrictions on what you trade so no problems with trading in 2 copies of the same game, may be worth checking with your local store before heading in though!

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
Most major chains like HMV, Game and Gamestation are doing nationwide midnight launches for the game so that might be a good option for you

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
I traded two copies of Overlord II in no problem and a couple of my friends have done the same, but like I said probably worth giving your local store a call before heading over there to trade them in

Game have upgraded pre-orders to free courier delivery, coz of all the disruption caused by the Royal Mail strikes. I've pre-ordered mine for £44.99 and should get it by release date hopefully!

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
I was planning on trading in Cod 4 at Game with their half price offer.
But i've also got Dirt 2 and only need to enter 1 tournament to finish it, so might trade that in too.
mmm decisions decisions!!!

Game don't actually dispatch yet, they are being sly and processing payments so that people cannot cancel the orders and go elsewhere. They send them all off to a courier and 10000's are stored in big metal cages in a warehouse waiting for the 9th. Activision are being really strict with people selling the game early, and are threatening legal action if any retailer does.
So yeah, I'd rather shopto not take my money until it's actually been dispatched, and not have to wait every day from the day Game tell you it's being packed, to the release date hoping that the van that just pulled up outside has your copy with it, and feeling the dissapointment when they don't.

Seen this being discussed here. Apparently Gamestation HQ have seen the play.com offer and are taking Overlord 2 off of the list.

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
That post you have linked to is pretty correct in its detail of the trade in policies. Its probably just pot luck if you manage to get Overload 2 taken in trade. I have ordered one anyways as fancy owning it and £10 is still a bargain

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
I've pre-ordered mine from gamestation. Will pick it up on the day plus if you have a student card it's 10% discount, so £40.50!
I think Toys R Us were selling it for £39.99 online but i'm not sure if it's free delivery or not.
Hope that helps.

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
asda staff have been told that the price of this game will not be disclosed until the day before release because they don't want other supermarkets etc getting wind of it and undercutting them. I'm hoping it will be cheap there without having to trade in games. fifa 10, world of war and a couple of others were £27 for release day only. So it will be cheaper but as of yet no price

Remember seeing this a few weeks ago with Asda's game buying manager admitting that they sell a lot of new games at a loss! Lets hope they keep it up

Re: *Official Modern Warfare 2 Thread*
back in the day i used to work for tavern who supplied tesco/asda with the booze they sell, and it allways bugged me how they sold it cheaper that what they would pay for it so i asked the question. Nobody can buy the alcohol cheaper than the supermarkets purley due to quantity how they sell at a loss is very easy. they purchase the bulk amount on a 3 month credit then sell the alcohol and the money from that goes straight into a high intrest account which by the time the 3 months is up wouldve not only coverd the orignal loss but made a nice profit. i take it the same would apply to the games aswell?

That is amazingly clever and hey if it helps us buy cheap games it can only be a good thing. It's win win win win. The supplier gets what they ask, the supermarket make a profit, the banks get money to invest and we get to make a saving.
I know the independent sector complain but TBH I never been in an independent game shop that offered me anything in terms of service that the chains haven't. Independent grocery and electrical shops are different. They often provide a service that fits the local community but never and indy game retailer. The only advantage I've seen with indys is the increased likelihood of getting a game before the release date.
