Microsoft Investigating Halo: Reach Leak Empty Microsoft Investigating Halo: Reach Leak

Post  Riled Wolf Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:25 am

A group of game modders has reportedly been able to download Halo: Reach a month early before its September 14 release date.

Halo: Reach was recently put on Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace store for game reviewers to download. The group was able to break through Microsoft's security to download and play the game. The group contends, however, it will not distribute Halo: Reach.

"So after alot of .xex cracking etc.. Me and my team finally did it, we got Halo: Reach!," the modders said. "This is not released for public, and we are not really planning on releasing either."

Microsoft has issued a statement to IGN saying the company is looking into the leak.

"We are aware of claims being made regarding a security exploit related to 'Halo: Reach' and are aggressively investigating the matter," a spokesperson said. "We have no further details to share at this time."

While Bungie has yet to officially comment of these leak claims, moderators posted a warning on the studio's forums politely telling everyone to not post spoilers and to avoid internet message boards until the game's official release.

"Posting to Discuss, Request, or Link To information or campaign spoilers from illegitimately obtained sources -- including illegitimately obtained copies of Halo: Reach -- before the game is officially released will be considered a leak and will be treated as such," the message said.

"The moderation team is doing their best, but if you want to stay 100% spoiler free, our best advice is to 'go dark' by staying off all internet gaming forums until you have played through the game!"

Yes I noticed a few spoilers on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] today, I now regrettably know how specific people die.

Lucky I managed to stop reading after two spoilers, there was still a whole page left. I somehow managed to freeze my eyes and close the page, god that was hard to do lol.

Stay clear from all locked forums on Bnet.

If you guys are interested someone is uploading the first mission on youtube. I had a quick peak but didn't want to spoil it too much, sooo tempted to watch the rest though. But it would only ruin my own experience Sad

So lets watch fire fight videos instead!! lol!

I just watched 15 mins of the 1st campaign mission. It actually looks really good. I wasn't too fussed about buying this game after getting bored of the beta after 3 days. This might have won me round though Wink

MS has struck back at all those who have downloaded and played the leaked version of Halo Reach. Not content with just banning respective consoles, MS is also permanently suspending the the Xbox LIVE tags of any players of the leaked Halo Reach version.

A user of a Jtagged 360 has provided a full copy of the text sent out by MS titled 'Notification of Permanent Suspension: Prerelease title play" to Maxconsole, which you can view here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
