Halo 5 - 15 DLC Maps Coming for Free, No XBL Gold Needed for Online Co-Op

Halo 5: Guardians will launch with 20 multiplayer maps and 343 Industries is promising that 15 more will be released as DLC for free.

That’s according to 343i boss Josh Holmes. Speaking to Game Informer, Holmes said, "When you have paid map packs and content, you divide the player base into two groups: the haves and the have-nots. The people that have the map pack can play together but the people who don't cannot.

“That to us is a real problem. So we're delivering all the maps to all players free so everybody will be able to play together. That, we feel, is really important to having a great multiplayer ecosystem."

Further hyping the upcoming game, Holmes said that Halo 5 will feature “an immense amount of content.” It’s "the biggest investment we've made in multiplayer in series history,” he said. “We're trying to provide as much variety and different ways to play for different play styles, just an immense amount of content."

The 15 free DLC maps are expected by June 2016.

Also, an an added bonus, Xbox Live Gold subscriptions will NOT be necessary to play Halo 5’s co-operative mode with friends. According to Game Informer’s story, that particular Xbox law is being broken just for Halo 5. Nice.

The new game mode sounds pretty cool.  Called Warzone, it will be 24 players with ai bots in mixed in too.
