2009: Year of the Beat 'Em Up Empty 2009: Year of the Beat 'Em Up

With the release of Street Fighter IV, Capcom announced 2009 the year of the beat 'em up. And how right they were. Tekken 6 is coming the The Big Black Dust Collector that plays DVD's and 360, Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny on PSP, Capcom vs Tatsunoko on the Wii, King of Fighters XII on The Big Black Dust Collector that plays DVD's and 360 and of course Garou: Mark of the Wolves on PSN and XLBA.

One not to miss is Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, another mental anime-inspired beat 'em up from the people who brought us Guilty Gear. It's difficult to tell from this trailer, but apparently this is a very hardcore game, with a multitude of meters and guages to monitor before you can pull of any of the thousands of moves.

It has been a good year for the beat-em-up, I am especially looking forward to Marvel vs Capcom 2 on Live Arcade.
