EA Explains Why 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is PS3 and X360 Only
EA Sports has offered some clarity on why 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil isn't heading to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, citing the PS3 and X360 having the "largest audience" as the reasoning behind the decision.
"Why isn't our World Cup game on X1/PS4? We are making the best game we can for our largest audience, which is still on 360 & PS3," the publisher tweeted from its EA Sports FIFA Twitter account. "For fans on X1/PS4, #FIFA14 will have a range of World Cup content and tournaments within FUT. More news closer to the tournament."
EA has also issued a statement providing more detail on 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil's exclusivity to PS3 and X360, revealing that relevant 2014 World Cup "engaging content, promotions and tournaments" will be brought into FIFA Ultimate Team for FIFA 14 on PS4 and Xbox One.
"EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PS3 as a fully featured console game. For our fans on the new generation of consoles and playing FIFA 14, we will have a range of engaging content, promotions and tournament within FIFA Ultimate Team so that those fans can experience the World Cup in unique and fun ways," reads the EA Sports statement issued to Videogamer.
"When we made the decision we considered a number of factors but most importantly we wanted to create a great game within our development resources that could reach as many people as possible and the way to do that was make our best game yet on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We gave our team the mandate of setting a laser focus on building the highest quality game for X360 and PS3 they could, and that’s exactly what they are doing."
2014 FIFA World Cup was announced earlier today, and will be heading to PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 15th in North America and April 17th in Europe.

EA just want to make as much money out of the world cup as possible is all I get from that story.

It's mental that this is going to be it's own game instead of DLC, you would think that one Fifa each year would be enough.

Surely these days just releasing dlc with all of the teams and stadiums etc plus a World Cup mode would have been the best plan, it is ea though; I'm surprised they didn't just release it as a free to play game that is impossible to use unless you spend hundreds on micro transactions

They put EURO 2012 out as DLC. Obviously it didn't make them as much money as they would have liked. Haven't bought an EA Sports game for a couple of years now at least. Everyone should try it. It feels liberating. (NBA Jam on Windows Phone doesn't count. )
