Blood Drive Mini Review
Looks like fun, right? Don't be fooled...
Blood Drive is a driving shoot 'em up, very much in the vein of Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8. Where it differs from those games is that it throws in a whole host of zombies and undead beasties. So, Twisted Metal PLUS zombies. Sounds awesome right? Of course it does. Unfortunately, while it sounds great on paper, the actual game is pretty underwhelming. If like me you're a big fan of the Twisted Metal games, you might be able to get a small amount of enjoyment from Blood Drive, but personally after a couple of hours and 130G, the novelty wore off for me and I came to the realisation that I would never want to play this again.
So what went wrong? Firstly, there should be more zombies. There should be tides of zombies to smash your way through, but as it is you have to steer with pinpoint precision to pick off the odd one. Combine this with the flaky controls and slippery vehicles and you have a bit of a frustrating experience. This is magnified by the fact that one of the game modes is basically "who can kill the most zombies"!
Next up is the AI. It's a little bit too hard, and a little bit too luck-based. Playing tournaments and getting destroyed until you get lucky and win one is not fun. Then there's the fact that you have to unlock all the cups as you go through, so if you fail you have no choice but to replay it until you do win - there is no alternative level to try out. There is also no difficulty setting, so you can't lower it if you are frustrated, which you will be. Probably most of the time.
The graphics are ok; cars are nice and varied and music was alright from what I remember. Nothing massively memorable though in either aspect of the game.
In summary, this game sounded awesome but wasn't. It's quite boring in single player and the online is dead. To be honest the box art is probably the best thing about the game.

Re: Blood Drive Mini Review
You sense right. Sometimes I like to try out games even if reviews are generally poor, as I can often be pleasantly surprised. This time, reviews are pretty much spot on. This is crap.Colne Crusader wrote:I sense this is one to avoid!
