Will the new XBOX play 360 games and be backwards compatible??

I am hoping that it is fully backwards compatible when it arrives next xmas.

Imagine how fed up we will all be with our large backlogs that need to be played on the 360 still.

You always think you will still play the old games and finish them but my history and piles of PS2 and Gamecube games tell me otherwise.

They tend to gather dust in the "I will get to it one day" pile.

God forbid if they ever removed or changed the achievement system.

They will need to move with the times though as soon enough HD TV's with only 1080p will be out of date and we will all have 4K TV's within 5 years.
Then the 8K TV's are already being made too, so it never stops really.

A 4K tv really will help with 3D too as you won't get that loss of detail you get now.

Exciting times.

I should imagine that the next console will be backward compatible with the criticism they received for that same issue when this generation first came out. backwards compatibility will obviously depend on weather you get a console with an optical drive (it's a Blu-ray 2.0 drive ) or a download/streamed only console supposedly being launched the following year as the equivalent of this gen's slim console. I'm also quite certain that the achievement system will carry on though I suspect we might se some minor changes to the system (I.e. amount of achievements/Gamerscore pre retail game etc.), also I would expect to se an increase in the number of friends you can have.

I agree. Surely backwards compatibility and continuation of gamerscore are absolutely essential parts of the strategy! It would be inexplicable not to! (Like something Ninty would do)!!

Fingers crossed, coz It's gonna take me another 15years to finish this backlog!!

I really hope they make it backwards compatible. I also really hope they make next gen GS separate from this gen, but with a page to view both or individually.

For getting through a backlog I always make a list of games I have to get to round to. There aren't actually that many left from previous gen gaming but I doubt i'll ever do them all.
