Top 20 XBOX 360 Titles

The XBOX 360 gaming library is probably one of the best in the history of gaming. While many of the games being released now are cross-platform that also see the light of day on the Playstation 3, the year or so of extra time on the market that the 360 had allowed it to build up a library of exclusives that truly propelled gaming into the "next" generation.

Titles like Bioshock, GRAW, Oblivion, The Orange Box and Halo 3 all helped the 360 develop it's core gaming audience, with a dedicated online community that no other competitor can even come close to in terms of content and accessibility.

Coming up with the top 20 XBOX 360 of all-time (up to now) was a very difficult task. The truth is that there are probably 50 or so titles that could very easily fit in to the top 20. The differences in quality between the bottom five or so in the top 20 and the next 10 that could have been in the list are near to zero. The top of the list was the easy part, but as we got further down, coming up with a fair list that we believed the general gaming public would also agree with was tough. We don't expect all of you to agree with the list and we know we're going to see plenty of "where is this game" or "why did you include that game".

While i don't fully agree with all the list its great to see such diverse titles on board, including Skate and Viva Pinata. Its also strange to not see either of the 2 microsoft exclusives at number 1, ie Gears or Halo. I would easily put the Gears at number 1 for story mode alone, not taking into consideration the MP parts that are either love or hate.

So.............. let the debate begin............

Only glaring omissions imo are Lost Odyssey and Fight Night. The 360 hasn't been a great console for JRPG's so I would have thought Lost Odyssey should have been in there as its clearly a stand out title in this genre. Fight Night came out quite early in the 360's lifespan and was graphically superior to everything else available at the time. It still holds up well today even with imminent arrival of its sequel.
Can't really complain with the rest of the list and Bioshock is definitely a deserving winner.

What will never cease to amaze me is how so many people rate BioShock. It was a GOOD game. Atmosphere was tremendous, graphical environment delicious. But thats where it ended. The story was ok, nothing better than many other FPS games, a slight twist with the little sisters, but that's about it. Where was the replay value, the multiplayer aspect? All missing. I completed the game, never been back in the Xbox since, and no desire to either. Also, with the number of people that play games like FIFA and PES regularly, week in week out, for literally a year until the next release - why aren't these games on the list? OK, so PES has been crap on Xbox, but FIFA 09 is quite simply the best football game of all time, and believe me, I've played every single one since Match Day on the Spectrum! Just screams to me of typical fanboyistic crap, but thanks for printing the list.

i think thats a pretty good list, i havent played all the games but i can agree with most of them. i really love bioshock so am pretty glad to see it so high despite its lack of multiplayer. i would also like to see fight night round 3 in there, it was one of the first xbox titles i bought and still love it cant wait for round 4.

How did Ridge Racer 6 miss the list!
That is my most played 360 title so far.

Also Dynasty warriors titles all missed out as did the seminal classic Samurai Warriors 2

I wont hear a bad word said about viva pinata. It is a very addictive and at times quite complicated stratagy game. It is certainly in my top 20 games, just because it was such a suprise at how much fun it was.

I think Viva Pinata is a great addition to the list, and just shows how diverse the 360 is.

One glarring ommision is PGR4 however, that just dawned on this morning. And i think Guitar Hero title should've been on it aswell.

Also, taking about release titles, where cod2?

agreed with you on guitar hero, it has made a strong cutural impact and as a taxi driver i hear it mentioned at least three times a week from all kind's of people, not actually played viva pinata, i had it down as a kids game but think i might check it out, seein how highly rated it is

theres a couple of games i wonder how they got in , r. evil way overrated (imo)
surprised not to see fifa 09 or grid in there , i would also put in halo wars as personally i love the game but its not everyones cup of tea.

Well Bioshock is my favourite game so I at least agree with that one . I think Mirrors Edge should have made the list . my favourite game last year and really pushed new boundaries
