Xbox One controller changes
Microsoft has leaked word of a new Xbox One controller, presumably to be revealed next month at E3.
The company's own Xbox Support website has been updated with mention of a 3.5mm headphone port at the base of the pad.
This new feature is "only available on controllers released after June 2015".
What other new features the pad will offer is unknown.
One frequent request from Xbox One owners is for a controller that can be charged via USB cable straight out of the box, rather than via a Play and Charge kit (sold separately).
But the fact that the design is otherwise identical suggests that the overall form factor of the controller will remain intact.

Re: Xbox One controller changes
Hopefully it means we won't need to use the silly adapter to use other better headsets now.
A built in battery would be good, but I doubt it will happen

Don't think I'd fancy a built in battery. It would mean a new controller every time the battery died.

Yeah I think the 3.5 mm jack is a nice idea but I'm with Colne on the in built batteries no matter how good they are one day they're gonna stop recharging and that's not good.

Agreed, isn't this the case with one of the Playstation controllers? PS3? I still have Micro$oft battery packs for the 360 which are going strong and hold 8+ hour charges. The idea of getting a new controller each time sounds like a ca$hcow scheme.

Re: Xbox One controller changes
Nice one lethal, saw this this morning but didnt have time to put it up, if they were going to do a new controller i would have expected some more stuff other than a new jack port, oh well.

Re: Xbox One controller changes
Having all ready bought a Turtle Beach headset for my Xbone, I won't be rushing out to buy a new pad. I agree that a wireless chat headset would be good though.
And as for built in batteries, don't even get me started...

Re: Xbox One controller changes
Yeah like FBG says would of been a great opportunity to do something a bit extra kinda disapointing but I guess they're taking a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' approach.

Re: Xbox One controller changes
will be interesting to see this, dont think there will every be a true wireless headset for the xbox one any time soon.. To me its a bit meh depends how they are going to use the jack and if you can still mute and select bias etc on controller otherwise this will be a pig of a controller. Would be interesting to see other features. Also with regards to the internal battery no way, love having changeable batteries so i can swap out instantly rather then hunt for a cable.

There already is, the turtle beach Stealth X500 is completely wireless, as in you don't need to connect it to the controller

Re: Xbox One controller changes

was thinking about the gaming controller phil spencer mentioned a little while ago i wonder if they may go down the scuff controller route...slightly shorter travel on the triggers etc...

I have never heard of scuf controllers before, it looks pretty cool but do they really make any difference?

Apologies for the double post but here are some pics and there are no other changes to the design

Possibly, I do quite like the design too. I had a look at those scuf controllers too, they are awesome!

Re: Xbox One controller changes
Yeah I have only heard good things about them from people I know but they are for hardcore fps gamers mainly as they add shorter travel or better accuracy with stick length.

I have these so new jack won't be something I'm interested in. They're awesome. The control unit connects straight into the Xbox, so even when your controller dies you can still talk away to your friends while you desperately swap to a charged battery pack. There's a great range on them too I can wear them two floors down in my house and still talk away.
