Flame Over Review Playstation Vita.
A Game By Laughing Jackal
Price: £7.99
Flame Over is a rather manic, firefighting game set over 16 floors of pyro shenanigans in the burning Skyscraper HQ of Infernal Industries and, as far as plot goes, that’s your lot. However, there’s no time for backstory because our Hero Blaze Carruthers has a rather urgent job to do. Flame Over may look cute, however, it is a baby faced assassin of a game. Presented in a 3D isometric top down view, Blaze has to methodically control and extinguish the fires around the randomly generated map. In addition to this, there are various workers and also cats spread around the place which you must endeavour to rescue and lead to the exit before they are overcome by flames, and all against a rather mean time limit!
The game is played in a twin stick shooter style, with the right stick being used to aim your hose or extinguisher. The fire system itself is fiendish. Objects will catch fire and spew fireballs across the room and set a new area alight just when you think you are getting somewhere. Rogue blasts of fire will quickly knock out a worker that you thought was safe for a moment. Objects will catch fire with varying rapidity depending on their material composition. Electrical fires have to be controlled with the extinguisher rather than the hose as you may imagine. To make matters worse, you have to keep an eye on your temperature. You will have to approach blazing areas with caution, lest ye be overcome by the heat. Luckily, workers are safe until you actually enter a room so you can at least make your way through the rooms methodically. An element of strategy is added by the fact that each stage has an electrical box and you can find it on your map and hit the switch which eradicates the problem of electrical fires for that level which are pesky as they constantly re-ignite. The Trouble is, getting to the box might take time as you will likely encounter survivors en route which you have to take care of first. It’s up to the player to decide whether to lead them to a safe room for the moment or to take them all the way to the exit straight away, which I found myself having to do more often than not because I was always in need of the additional 60 seconds reward you receive for ushering them away to safety.
Additional strategy is added by the fact that you will need to replenish your water and extinguisher supplies at regular points and also you will need to keep a working fire axe ready to hack open certain doors. On top of that is the limited supply of water bombs and various items that you can find scattered around to aid your quest. Also there is one resident of the skyscraper who isn’t particularly bothered about being burnt to a cinder and would rather give you mini missions to complete on your travels. You need to keep her alive and do her bidding to receive upgrade tokens to unlock upgrade categories. You earn cash constantly as you extinguish fire and this is used for the upgrade system between levels which will hopefully make your subsequent plays seem almost possible. The dilemma is to decide whether to spend your cash in the shop you may encounter within the game on immediate items, or whether to save it for the upgrade screen. Either way, your wonga has to be spent before you start a new game otherwise it is all donated to charity.
I really like Flame Over. Laughing Jackal have done an excellent job and this is a fun and addictive action game despite it’s difficulty. You will need to put some effort in to make some progress but hey, that’s all the more rewarding right!?
I shall score it a healthy 8 out of 10. Not perfect but a rather essential addition to the PS Vita library.

A good review mate, I really enjoy the way your personality shines through into your work.
How hard are the trophies?
How hard are the trophies?
Re: Flame Over Review Playstation Vita.
Ya what??? Lol.
The trophies range from straight forward to absolutely rock hard. I got about 7 pretty quickly but there are the tough buggers in there like "Complete the game in an hour" and one for completing the game having rescued everyone which is gonna be tough.

Good job, reminds me of that fire fighting game on ps1. Roscoe McQueen was it? Something like that anyway, and can't be arsed to google it.

Re: Flame Over Review Playstation Vita.
I only had the demo from Official Playstation Mag, but it was one of those like Tombi that I used to play over and over.
