Tenlo's XBLA Bragging Contest

First topic message reminder :


With the recent announcement of next month's Xbox Live Rewards event (check Graham's post here) I thought what the hell let's have an impromptu contest for all those XBLA titles cluttering up our hard drives.

So throughout April I challenge you all to complete as many XBLA achievements as you can on as many different games as possible! Who will win out, who will falter first, who has some right bizarre stuff backed up in their backlog? All will be revealed over the month.

At the moment all the prizes we have are pure bragging rights, but I will try and scavenge some codes and gifts from companies over the month, but no guarantees! As it's all fun there will be several categories to win in. Obvious categories will be most GS and most achievements earned, but I will also be announcing more random categories such as least GS and achievements earned, most and least amount of games you've earned achievements in as well as most completed games. Plus any more bizarre ones that pop into my head.

All in all it's going to be a good chuckle and gives us all an excuse to tackle some of those games lurking in our backlogs! Plus with the variety of categories I can think of, I can imagine everyone has a chance of winning something (thought it may take me a couple of days to write up the final victor's posts).

To enter all you have to do is join the leaderboard here (if the link doesn't work just follow the leaderboard on my TA page. If you're not on TA or just want to make my life a living nightmare, then just PM me your gamertag and I'll shift through your game list and do it manually (and prepare for some cursing and blaspheming of your name - no Xmas cards for you!!!). I'll take note of everyone's scores around midnight 31st March and keep tabs from there. If you join late don't worry I'll just keep tabs from when you do start.

So apologies for the suddenness of the comp but it's a moment of inspiration, hence the slapdash logo and lack of organisation, but I'm sure it'll come together. So let's clear that XBLA backlog together and earn some bragging rights and possible forum badges (just came to me that idea - I told you this was in the process of being made!) plus don't forget to sign up to Xbox rewards as you may as well get some free stuff from them too!

Xbox Live rewards are offering 3 different promotions related to XBLA games. One of them is a month free Gold for buying 5 games, but they need to be 400MSP or more.

Game Room comes under retail mate, as it's found under Games On Demand.

First up apologies in advance, it's 2am and having just collated all the data my brain is a bit fuzzy so my usual writing talents are not up to scratch.

But now down to business. Yesterday saw a big push by many of the competitors and it seems that the majority of the players are getting off their marks. However three players managed no score at all (Naf Vertone and Markav) while two days in Stubbymite has yet to score anything. I think a prodding pole may be in need soon to remind him of the contest.

Shiffy Uk maintains his lead today but only racks up another 3 achievements meaning the gap is slowly closing. However the battle for the next four places is close with just 25 GS between 5th place Grahamofthedead with 335 GS and Bawhawhaw on 360 GS. Next up is yours truly with 415 GS and then in 2nd place out of the blue comes Colne Crusader with 541 GS (whose name is now mud in the Tenlo household thanks to odd number GS achievements!!).

After the top 5 is a second pack with just 100 GS between them with Leigh36295, ShooterMcgavin 2 and Waggly Bean placing 6th, 7th and 8th respectively. Finally the back of the pack is a riot with just a mere 40 GS between 9th and 13th place. So it's still a very heated competition.

With the recent XBLA sale announced and Battleblock Theatre hitting the marketplace tomorrow, it'll be interesting to see where the scores are situated tomorrow.

urgh, just been playing the walking dead episode 1 for an hour and died on chapter 5, for some reason it put me straight back to the main menu and I can't load the game to carry on, just says start a new game.

Heard that The Walking Dead does have game breaking glitches, hope it's something you can sort out!! Fingers crossed I haven't stumbled on anything like this yet....

Already have all of those phone games (completed 3 of them), but none of the Windows titles. Might get Royal Envoy.

You tried buying them yet? I can't seem to connect to the marketplace, I can see them at 79p but it keeps saying 'purchasing' for ages and then brings up an error that it couldn't connect...

Oh well, try again later I suppose.

Well it seems the Easter weekend finally caught up with a lot of people yesterday as half of the contestants scored absolutely no achievements yesterday, which meant I had less work to do huzzah!!

Of the remaining 7 players, four of us put in under 100GS though Graham did manage to get a completion in there. Which leaves us with three players left. In third for yesterday is Leigh36295, who had a bit of a run through his games and managed to get 130 GS over three games, then came Markav who must have been one of the four people in the world who hadn't played Harms Way, putting that completion under his belt and a couple of other achievements to give him 215GS. ShooterMcGavin though must have had a lot to do yesterday as he probably spent about 30 mins yesterday knocking up 1200 GS by completing the SEGA easy score fighting trilogy of Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter 2 and Sonic Fighters.

So how does this affect the leaderboards overall, not a great deal to be fair. Colne maintains third place but Shiffy UK is pushed back into second thanks to ShooterMcGavin's impressive scoring pushing him to first place with a 305GS advantage. So congrats there.

The rest of the field is still a close battle with 4th and 9th place only separated by 300GS while 10th to 14th still only has 50GS between it with Stubbymite in 14th place with no achievements earned at all. I think maybe someone should tell him we've started.

I'm running out of games to play . I started splosion man yesterday cos I saw there's about 3 achievements for simple things like watching the credits or changing control layout, most of the games I have take ages to max like Shadow Complex, Snoopy Flying Ace, Both Keflings, CS:GO, etc.

To be fair Leigh apart from the 3 sega fighting games and the Doritos games there are very few easy max's in XBLA. In a way having it for a month makes it a lot fairer as anyone who goes down the easy max route will still have to play tough games to keep their score high enough. I think in Everton's comp last year I managed about 3500GS in arcade games only in Everton's weekly comp last year through some manic completions!

Keflings don't take that long to be fair, and at least they're really easy. I never did finish off the first, but I'm close on World of Keflings, just gotta decide whether I want to buy the last piece of DLC or not...

Hee!! I wish I'd kept back all those Sega whorers for this now!!! Would have had a field day!! There must be 4K to be had in a day from those!!

I can't decide wether to try and rack up as many cheevs as possible or go for some completions. I can't really compete on a points basis with those who have whorers left unplayed as I've done most of the easy ones and I don't think I'll be buying any new games just for GS!! I've got 6 games that i'm fairly close on maxing but there's not much GS to be had from them! Hmmmm decisions decisions!!!!

Still, there's plenty of time left yet!!

Bah, I've been awake for hours, I just need several cups of coffee and plenty of breakfast, to get my head round all these stats so :p!

Anyway, today seemed another quiet day with just 6 contestants scoring, but those 6 made up for it with a total of 80 achievements, 3 completions and 1540GS between them. So let's start at the bottom and work our way to the top.

With the least actual positive score yesterday was yours truly with a meager 40GS, with Waggly Bean and GrahamoftheDead on 45GS and 50GS respectively.

Next up in the middle two positions are Bawhawhaw and in his ever determined ideal to not finish last, Kent Hammer with 130 and 180 respectively. It is worth pointing out Kent is really pulling out all the stops to not be last starting four different titles including such hardcore hits as Disney Fairys. However with a completion rate of only 74% it's not suprising Kent struggled to actually max the game scoring just 50 out of the potential 200GS, Kent has still to find his inner fairy it would seem.

Which leaves us with yesterdays big hitters, Markav and TreeMunky. Both players pulled Sonic the Fighters out of the bag, but TreeMunky reduced the amount of players who haven't finished Harm's Way down to a mere two people in the world, scoring himself 600GS while Markav cleaned up some other games including our first Kinect title if I'm not mistaken to give himself 495GS.

So onto the important thing, how does this affect the current leaderboard. Well with the two top players, ShooterMcGavin and Shiffy pulling no shows yesterday the top two places remain the same, however Markav's and TreeMunky's showing yesterday have pushed them into 3rd and 4th, knocking Colne Crusader back into 5th place. The rest of the field is starting to spread out a little now with 5th and 8th place only having just over 100GS between them. 9th, 10th and 11th all have around 100GS between them, there is still plenty of fight between them. We now also have only 3 contestants with below 100GS after Kent's efforts yesterday, but it seems Stubbymite may well miss the whole competition as he has still yet to score!!

Today sees the release of classic Double Dragon 2 and obviously the weekend will help boost scores so it'll be interesting to see how the scores look over the next few days.

Now bugger off I'm going back to bed!!
