Tenlo's XBLA Bragging Contest

First topic message reminder :


With the recent announcement of next month's Xbox Live Rewards event (check Graham's post here) I thought what the hell let's have an impromptu contest for all those XBLA titles cluttering up our hard drives.

So throughout April I challenge you all to complete as many XBLA achievements as you can on as many different games as possible! Who will win out, who will falter first, who has some right bizarre stuff backed up in their backlog? All will be revealed over the month.

At the moment all the prizes we have are pure bragging rights, but I will try and scavenge some codes and gifts from companies over the month, but no guarantees! As it's all fun there will be several categories to win in. Obvious categories will be most GS and most achievements earned, but I will also be announcing more random categories such as least GS and achievements earned, most and least amount of games you've earned achievements in as well as most completed games. Plus any more bizarre ones that pop into my head.

All in all it's going to be a good chuckle and gives us all an excuse to tackle some of those games lurking in our backlogs! Plus with the variety of categories I can think of, I can imagine everyone has a chance of winning something (thought it may take me a couple of days to write up the final victor's posts).

To enter all you have to do is join the leaderboard here (if the link doesn't work just follow the leaderboard on my TA page. If you're not on TA or just want to make my life a living nightmare, then just PM me your gamertag and I'll shift through your game list and do it manually (and prepare for some cursing and blaspheming of your name - no Xmas cards for you!!!). I'll take note of everyone's scores around midnight 31st March and keep tabs from there. If you join late don't worry I'll just keep tabs from when you do start.

So apologies for the suddenness of the comp but it's a moment of inspiration, hence the slapdash logo and lack of organisation, but I'm sure it'll come together. So let's clear that XBLA backlog together and earn some bragging rights and possible forum badges (just came to me that idea - I told you this was in the process of being made!) plus don't forget to sign up to Xbox rewards as you may as well get some free stuff from them too!

Aye I almost forgot to get everyones details down but I finished them about 12.01am, then went to bed and played Mirror's Edge on my phone. Good luck all. I'll try to keep daily reports going as and when I can!

Well, I popped 50Gs in five minutes last night with my strategically delayed battle with the last boss on Shadow Complex, and then slammed 70Gs on Pacman this morning in 15 minutes. So that's 120gs in 20 minutes! Would be good if I could keep that rate going! If only!! lol!! But i'm only here for the fun really. Back to work tomorrow so I probably wont game for a few days! Sob!!

Got 8 achievements on Texas Cheat 'em this afternoon, for 110G. Plan on working on the rest tonight, but it some of them seem to take luck-based achievements to the next level.

Anyone who wants an easy 400gs and a completion should try minecraft. Great game and an easy completion with the right advice for a few things

...family they just don't understand gamer bragging rights...

Well the first day is over and the results are in.

First up let's have a look at general stats. Our contestants managed to unlock 128 achievements today for a total of 2155 GS!! Interestingly 27 of those achievements came from the ever faithful Windows Phone (probably lots of toilet gaming after big Sunday lunches and chocolate). People have also taken advantage of the recent Walking Dead sale as it was the most played game yesterday too!

Now onto the individual scores and well let's say that some people must still be recovering from Easter weekend as TreeMunky, Stubbymite and Gambler6464 managed to get absolutely no XBLA achievements whatsoever.

Then we had a few slow starters in the middle of the table with Kent Hammer, ShooterMcGavin, Markav, Naf Vertone and Waggly Bean only accomplishing a single digit number of achievements. Next up comes the leading pack with Colne Crusader, Myself, Bawhawhaw, GrahamoftheDead, Leigh36295 all with between 11 and 20 achievements each.

However way ahead at the moment with a whopping 38 achievements is Shiffy UK. I'm reckoning on his ability to read the future as he saved Harm's Way, Virtua Fighter 2 and Sonic Fighters for the competition giving him over 30 achievements between the three of them.

The Gamerscore side of things is pretty similar in positions with one noticeable difference. Thanks to the hefty amount of points per achievement on Minecraft Leigh36295 is actually in 2nd place overall despite actually being in tied 5th place for amount of achievements.

As you can guess the only person who managed any completions today was Shiffy too with 3 completions now under his belt. However it is only the first day of the contest and there is a long way to go. Will Shiffy maintain his lead over the next few weeks, or will this early sprint just be a one off, but at the moment its still all to play for!!

Great report didn't get to my beloved machine until 10pm last night and that was to drop some Shift codes into BL2. Looking forward to getting home tonight. Game on.

Suprised I'm in 2nd from Minecraft, didn't think they'd be worth so much TA as they are so easy. I'm not expecting to place well overall as I have no plan in the slightest, only have about 10 arcade games that i'll try and squeeze easy achievements from but I'm not really a completionist on XBLA

I should point out although I'm using TA to get the info, I'm not using TA scores, just GS and number of achievements. Minecraft has surprisingly few achievements but 400GS so there are plenty of high score achievements rather than the usual mix of 10GS each achievements

I recommend Full House Poker for those that haven't played it. Don't really have any interest in the others and I only have 60 points left anyways lol

Good news as far as prizes go as well. I won't reveal them yet as it's still up in the air, but to give credit where it is due, Everton and TreeMunky should be given a rousing round of applause for stepping up and donating prizes in their generosity. Kent has also given me the keys to the prize cupboard and while it is a mixed bag there is still some gems in there.

Plus the publishers and developers who provide our review copies have been very generous and we already have some codes plus the promise of more by the end of the week and not all have replied yet so hopefully everyone who puts some effort into the comp should get some sort of reward!
