Dead Island Game-save glitch
Thought I'd ask if anyone else has had this issue with Dead Island, where it fails to load up a previous game-save?
I emailed the technical support dept -as mentioned in the back of the manual. I'll include the messages / responses I got.
To whom it may concern,
I've been playing Dead Island on the Xbox 360 since a few days before its official European release date, and sadly have come across an issue whilst playing it that has frustrated me beyond words.
I've been following the progress of Dead Island since their first trailer release back in 2007 on Official Xbox Magazines cover disc, and am a huge fan of anything zombie related, so you can imagine my anticipation of this title.
Generally speaking I love it, dispite some obvious flaws, but the issue that I'm writing to you about now is severely damaging my enjoyment of and faith in the game.
I completed the game with the Xian Character a while ago and when the credits ended it explained in a message on screen that if I restarted the game with this character my stats and weapons, etc, would be retained. It saved and then tried to load the Resort level. It froze on the loading screen.
No matter how many times I've retried it it always freezes at exactly the same point and I have to reset my Xbox .
This was incredibly annoying, but because I'd seen the end of the game, and because I had 3 other characters I thought I'd class this as a one off and just start again from the beginning.
Skip to some time later, this evening about 30mins ago.
I'd managed to reach level 42 with the Purna character, however this time I hadn't even finished the game, I was attempting to mop up some of the side-missions in the Jungle level. I had to leave the Xbox, and so saved the game. When I came back to it later and tried to load the game, its done exactly the same thing. It tried to load the game-save and just crashes the Xbox (freezing on the loading screen).
In my collective stats it says I've been playing the game a total of 75 hours, and I've now nothing to show for it because both of my game-saves have screwed up. and I'm left with this sour taste in my mouth where I feel like playing has been a complete waste of my time. I truly can not put into words how utterly frustrated and upset I am with this. The fact that I'm writing to address this issue, in and of itself speaks volumes. I've NEVER had reason to write to a games company before to complain about how let down I've been by the glitches with the game.
Please tell me that this is something that can be fixed or worked around? Or that there's some sort of corrective patch that's coming out for this? Surely I'm not the only person to have experienced this problem?
Please let me know what I can do to help you resolve this issue, as to be honest, until I've got this problem resolved, I doubt I'm going to be playing much on this game as for all I know its going to happen again with every character I start.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your enquiry.
We are very sorry to hear that your save game files can't be loaded anymore.
We are analyzing the problem right now and we will fix it as soon as possible,
the resolution of this problem has top priority.
What you can do in the future:
It is possible to backup your save game to a USB flash drive. If you copy your
save game after every gaming session, you are on the safe side in the future
and you can never lose all your progress by doing so.
What you can do now:
You can still start a new game with the same character. Since the game
remembers that you have already been to the current chapter with this
character, you can just load this chapter with your new save game. You should
also be able to start with enough EXP to master the chapter. All your weapons
and all your money will be gone though.
There is a good chance that the second patch will unfreeze your doomed save
game file.
Unfortunately no other solution than starting a new game has yet been found so
far to this nasty problem.
We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences caused.

Hello Support team,
Thank you for your surprisingly swift response, I'd of replied last night but sending you an email was the last thing I did before turning the computer off. I'm very pleased to hear that this is an issue that you've prioritised to resolve ASAP.
Regarding your comments about what to do to try and avoid this, I thought I'd try to give you a bit more information.
With the first game save I described, that save file was at all times kept on the xbox hard drive, and is still shown as being present.
With my second file, it was - for the majority of the time- held directly on an external USB memory device. But the same issue still occurred, so it doesn't seem to really make a difference where the save is stored.
This leads me to ask, if this is a known issue that people have reported from different formats (pc, ps3, xbox) is there any idea at this stage as to what causes this problem? is it something specific that the players themselves are doing? or is it something completely beyond our control?
Many thanks,
Dear Customer,
a lot of players at the moment are (ab)using a glitch in the game to duplicate
items. By doing so you have a good chance to ruin your save game because you
might exceed an 'invisible' limit for some craft items (it's not really a
limit, but the game seems to have problems processing certain values). We are
not 100% sure about this, but too many craft parts of some sort in the
inventory could trigger the bug (even if you haven't been duplicating).
Another theory claims that it might be the number of different/unique
inventory items and not the total number of each or a combination of both, we
are still working on it.
To be fair... yes, I'm abusing the heck out of that glitch, because its ,making my life so much easier in the game - or so I thought.
Anyone else experienced this type of thing? Or for that matter other glitches? I know I have.

Re: Dead Island Game-save glitch
Just read this.
Its sounded awful until I read your admission you had been glitching right at the end
Really made me laugh as it was so serious until that point.
I have this game now if you would like to help me, but don't run on and complete everything for me

Re: Dead Island Game-save glitch
It has been glitching for people who haven't used the weapon duplicate as well.

Ive completed the game and gone onto my 2nd playthrough with no problems and ive only made a couple of modded weapons for the achievments which means ive got a shit load of craft items on my character. Ive never used the glitch to duplicate items though so it does sound like thats the cause of the problem you have.
