Retailer Exclusive Content
Is it just me, or has the bewildering choice of different pre-order bonuses from different retailers got a bit much lately.
I know there's already been a mention of the Gears of War 3 pre-order bonuses, I believe that you get different multiplayer skins, depending on where you get your game from, but I was amazed when I saw all the different options for Batman Arkham City.
I fully intend on buying this game and I might not get it on release, but if I do buy it on release, I have to choose between these options:
Shopto have the 1970s Batman costume as in-game DLC and they want £34.85 of your hard earned.
Game Stores Group have the Robin edition of the game and it includes a downloadable Robin content pack including fully playable character with a whole new design, 2 Robin challenge maps and 2 Alternative Robin skins, £39.99 to you squire.
Tesco Entertainment have the Joker Steelbook Edition with Tesco Exclusive Joker's Carnival Challenge Map and they want £39.70.
Finally, HMV has a LTD edition DC Batman Arkham City comic, a LTD edition Batman Arkham City T-Shirt and a LTD edition lenticular sleeve and they want you to part with £37.89.

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
From those choices i'd go for the Hmv one first, then the Game one.
Like a shirt with a game, had a red Faction one and a Saints 2 one, still have them

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
It is becoming more and more difficult to choose a retailer, I've decided to get my copy of AC: Revelations from GameStop as they have the Animus edition with the encyclopedia. I agree with Liquid though its rarely worth worrying about anything in game as usually it gets released separately eventually. I only get special editions with something material and worth getting.

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
It is a real dilemma.
I just wish there was a game coming out I wanted with loads of those goodies attached.
If dynasty warriors or ridge racer came out with multiple version I would buy them all.
But for Gears and Batman I will wait for the price drops.

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
Id say out of them the hmv one is by far the best, sure ingame content is nice, but physical items are 100 times better. especially over pointless skins. ive ordered the collectors edition from asda not sure if its coming with any preorder incentives but it was a reasonable price.

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
It is very annoying with all these different pre order bonuses from different retailers. I'm getting the Epic Edition of Gears 3 but also really want the Mechanic Baird skin too as I only ever play as Baird online. Will it come out as DLC later on? To this day the Golden guns still aren't available to buy from the marketplace. The same goes with the super shiny helmet thingies in Halo Reach, although that was with a special edition, not as an enticement to pre order from a specific retailer.
Now I noticed Tenlo mentioned an Animus Edition of AC:Revelations. Do I go for that now or stick with the Collectors Edition from Play as you get an Altair pre order bonus from them.
Then I think are any of these things really necessary. They don't alter your enjoyment of the game, least if they're only skins. Extra single player chapters or maps are a different matter as I bet those things are already on all the discs and the code just unlocks them for you. Meaning unless you get every pre order bonus you're not entitled to access everything already on the disc.
Or am I just being overly cynical.

Re: Retailer Exclusive Content
In my experience ive found that all pre-order bonuses eventually come as paid DLC as well, while things in special editions dont. It's their way of getting more money out of you.
