Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 is in development at Gearbox Software, Eurogamer understands.

We've heard an announcement from publisher 2K Games will be made soon.

A source close to the game told Eurogamer the Gearbox-developed shooter will release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year.

Borderlands 2 has been rumoured for months now. In April Borderlands 2 was spotted on a game developer's online CV – sparking speculation that the sequel will be announced at E3 in June.

Following that revelation, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford told Eurogamer the Duke Nukem Forever developer had every intention of revisiting the Borderlands franchise at some point in the future.

"I can tell you that myself and everyone at Gearbox LOVES Borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it's gotten from our customers and the fact that it's sold over four million units now," he said.

"So you can see that we supported the game like mad with lots of great DLC and you can imagine that we're going to want to do a lot of things with Borderlands in the future.

"But we've only announced what we've announced. If we haven't announced it, it doesn't exist.

"Plans and efforts towards the future always exist with a forward looking studio like Gearbox, of course," he continued, "but brainstorming and blue sky research and development should never be allowed to be construed into a customer promise.

"A customer promise should not be made until that promise becomes sufficiently clear and ready and the commitment is there to deliver upon the promise."

The 2009 co-op fuelled shooter was a hit with critics and gamers, and publisher 2K Games has described a sequel as "a no-brainer". Eurogamer's Borderlands review looted an 8/10.

2K had not responded to Eurogamer at the time of publication.

For some reason I can only get into this when I play it in coop. Playing alone doesn't seem to catch my attention for long.
I'm sure the other half will look forward to a second one though, he played the 1st for ages.

Count me in, I have a STUPIDLY over powered gun on this baby and an unlimited shield.

Great to see a Borderlands 2 is comming out i really enjoyed the first game, lets hope they fix it so that people cant mod the weapons for 1 shot kills like in the first game, that ruined multiplayer for me. I only play it online now with people i know, so if you need any help let me know and ill be there.

Edit: Just seen Kents post after i posted this. I hope you dont use modded weapons, shame on you

I rented this a while back and just couldn't get into it, might be because I was playing single player but the game just didn't do anything for me.

They may well have been a gift but its not something you want on you if gearbox come calling into your game stats and see the kind of things your killing in one shot and not taking any damage whatso ever... who knows, seeing as you ain't played it for a while Kent, by the time you do you could find your game save deleted/corrupted because of that gift...
Get rid of it, it ain't worth it and it spoils the game for anyone else you are playing with.
It ruined the whole game for me as ppl were throwing them around any game you went into to... so i deleted my game save. Wish i hadmn't as my siren was just plain awesome, but i wasn't enjoying the game anymore..

So if you want a level 1 nub to latch onto you feel free to give me a shout lol (and gundam is shite )

I still haven't played it. The first one I mean. I have seen the game of the year edition, but didn't buy it. But alot of my work mates keeps raving about it.

Gearbox have teased details of a new character they are working on for post launch DLC, the Mechromancer class. Still in the very early stages but looks interesting especially with the class abilities due to include controlling, "robot companions, including one referred to as "Deathtrap."
