Have computer games become boring?
Every now and again i see people on here saying they have got bored of gaming. I myself have taken a couple months break just before christmas last year. Is the reason that we are fed up of playing sequels, or is it that there are very few original games being made? I found a interesting read on the BBC news page that discusses why this may be.

Re: Have computer games become boring?
I think that maybe we have come to expect too much from games. It's very rare that one lives up to my expectations. In fact Legend of Zelda and the Elder Scrolls games are the only ones that have. Compared to them other games always seem to fall short for me somehow.

Re: Have computer games become boring?
I think some games do get boring especially endless cycled out retail releases like the COD series but there are always plenty of other games which often slip under the radar like Enslaved and Deadly Premonition. Plus with the quality of XBLA and Indie games increasing all the time, there are always innovations somewhere.
Double Fine had the best idea when Brutal Legend didn't make the impact they hoped, they've now moved to smaller but higher risk releases which hopefully in the long run will allow them to take a risk with a larger retail release. If more developers took this route I think innovation will start to re-appear, until then I'll keep playing away at all the awesome arcade games between the occasional awesome retail release.

I totally agree with Tenners!
And I just think that gamers become harder to please. As with film special effects, we expect a visual feast and it just doesn't wow us anymore! Innovation in gameplay is what we need, no matter how commercially difficult it is. On the other hand, production values are improving as regards voice acting and scripting so they get more entertaining in that respect.
Could never get bored of games though! There's always something exciting out there.
