Duke Nukem Forever Demo
Well i woke up early this morning and much like Xmas was greeted by an e-mail saying my demo code was ready. Well I've just finished running through the demo and I thought I'd share my thoughts.
Firstly it looks slick. All the enemies are quite detailed and the world's are detailed as well. You've basically got two parts to the demo. The first is the famous PAX demo of the football ground level and the second part is a canyon level where you have to refuel your car after a small driving section. There are loads of nice interactive touchs and yes you can pick up poo and throw it (which was one of my first ports of call). In the second part you walk past a waterfall and it looks amazing too. Graphically you can't really fault it at the mo.
Secondly its hectic and smart. I opted for normal difficulty and having recently played DN3D I was suprised to find myself ducking for cover quite quickly. Although they were small groups of enemies they hit you fast, the moment I ducked my head out of cover they were taking pot shots at me and accurate ones too. Once you've got the hang of the controls though it becomes easier though I did have to turn down the sensitivity a touch as the aiming was a bit twitch happy.
The gameplay itself is good. The driving section handled well and you start to feel like the Duke after a short while, little touches like watching yourself pick yourself up added nice little touches to the game. It felt a little half-life in the canyon part (which it referenced in a quote about crowbars), which isnt a bad thing, but action was consistent but allowed you to have breathers between the set pieces. The puzzle bits were simple but clever. For instance you have to push a mine cart up a hill and to start off with you struggle until you realise you can throw all the drums out of the cart then you fly up the hill
In fact I only had one gripe and that was loading times, it seemed an extortionately long loading time whenever you started a section or died. Hopefully it was just because its a demo and the full game won't have it but I'll have to wait and see. Overall though, this is looking great and while I doubt its going to break any new ground, I think its definitely going to be one of the most enjoyable games to play this year.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Demo
Yeah I played it this morning. I enjoyed it, just a shame it was a little short. Also drawing and rub things of the whitebaord is preety cool too. I like the little things where you can interact with the enviroment, like goin to the toilet or drinking the water from the water fountain etc.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Demo
I'm having problems getting mine :/
I clicked the link in the email and it just took me to the page where it asks you to put your code and email address in, and is now asking me to chose my preferred platform again. Did it do that to anyone else?
EDIT: Nevermind. Got it now

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Demo
I'll agree the demo is short but its a great taster for next week. It gives you just enough to get you hooked but leaves you wanting more. Damn you 2k and your drug dealing ways!!
