LA Noire- 1st impressions

Anyone got the game yet? I know it meant to be released tomorrow but sometimes people get it a day early....

Your thoughts on the game?

after having played this for a few hours i must say i am really impressed. Graphically its brilliant but its also good to see that Rockstar can do a little more than just GTA in a different guise type games.

Gonna reserve my full judgement until i have played the full story out. every game is the best thing since sliced bread for the first week then the cracks show, but so far its great.

I have just started it and you have to be a cut scene lover to enjoy it!

Also if your partner follows you up a staircase it takes about ten minutes to get back down again as he WILL NOT turn round and just blocks you even though you are running into him.

The cop car is quite hard to write off, I tried for a while crashing at top speed into things, it took 11 crashes before it caught fire.

I left my partner and got in another car, then drove about a mile to a crime scene, then spookily he appeared right next to me at my destination

Playing this on my 2nd account as its really looking like a quick trade in for me.

No free roam (of which you know it in any other R* game)

I've got it, and can't be arsed to play it, just for reading what others are saying..
Yes it's a good story, but there is no need to pay £40 for that story.. It is just that and nothing more... no mp, no free roam... just story.
Wait for it to be £20 or less

its funny, since when has a great story and inventive gameplay not been enough. I know we have been spoiled with great games on the 360 but i still prefer a great single player game to the best multiplayer game anyday.

It does have free roam, once you have completed the Traffic Cop section you can revisit any dept and free roam the city. Not that theres much to do, other than the side street crime missions and all the collectables.

I am really liking this. I was hoping for what Heavy Rain tried to do but better and am not disappointed. Think I would have returned it immediately if it was like GTA or Saints Row as it would have just shown what a one trick pony Rockstar can be.

There are definitely lulls in the gameplay but the story is so immersive time flies when I am playing and I get a genuine thrill out of having enough evidence to prove people are lying.

I am expecting a lot of people to return it when they realise it's not GTA in the 1940s like Red Dead was GTA with cowboys, but for those who stick with it you'll be rewarded with a totally compelling and unique game

P.S Has anyone else tried the black and white display mode? It looks awesome

Yea... free roam, in which you roam freely... and do nothing different to what you were doing in the first place.
There could be so much more for you to do, Other than solve a mugging or a missing fkin cat for crisps sake...

I keep seeing stuff and fancy it, but I'm still not convinced. Was shocked there's no MP, does that mean rockstar are planning on releasing a DLC or something with MP?
Think Mr Jaded has put a game buying ban out on me for now aswell, so might have to do a sneeky rental to see!

I'm loving this game, I can understand why it may not be everyone's cup of tea but its a breath of fresh air to have a blockbuster game that isn't afraid to try something different, I was getting disenchanted with the hordes of identical shooters, action games, driving games that are getting churned out these days but LA Noire and Portal 2 have restored my faith in originality and innovation in gaming again

I'm going to wait for this to drop down, i do luv these type of games, but i'm playing AC Bro at the minute and can't be arsed to concentrate on two stories at the same time.

At the min, i just want a game i can jump in/out of...cod/shift/gears etc.

Plus i think all the hype has put me off.

My game time is showing as around the ten hour mark so far. Am less than half way through, but I have been doing a lot of the side missions. I think that to max it out it'll take around 40-50 hours for the 1000g

I don't think game time should come into it though, portal 2 was an amazing game but I had maxed it out within about 20 hours of gameplay. Those 20 hours were better than 100 hours of a piss poor game

Agree with niteowl on the game time thing, I did read an interview regarding LA Noire saying that each case takes around 45 minutes to an hour and there are around 40 cases in the game so that should give some indication of the length

Well in terms of gameplay with no DLC etc, there is 21 cases... I've now completed all 21 and am now just going back to 5* them all..

Easily my game of the year so far

I wish I had a 1940's detective hat to wear when I'm playing this
