Don't know if this is old or not, many forumites might already have heard about this... news about old blighty can take it's time getting to snowy Sweden...

"UK supermarket giants Tesco and Asda have reportedly started trials of pre-owned game trade-ins in a few of their stores. Asda have introduced the practice in one of its Leeds stores with Tesco trialling it in Essex, with the possibility of it being in other stores too."

"The move, if introduced nationwide, could cause huge disruption to stores like GAME and Gamestation who use trade-in services to increase their intake. MCV notes that other non-specialist stores have being using trade-ins across the UK, with HMV offering a similar service (although from personal experience, rubbish prices). Tesco and Asda are two of the biggest retailers in the country, meaning that they can often offer games at reduced prices. At launch, both Tesco and Asda sold Fifa 10 for as little as £24.97 – half the regular price.

This will probably mean cheaper games for us, but publishers are likely to see this as another threat to their income as they make no money from pre-owned sales."

Tescos are the evil empire personified. They are a bunch of tax avoiding, council bribing, brain washing vermin.

The only thing that could possibly make them more evil would be a tie in with that Bearded gonad Branston Pickled

I have no idea why brits are so happy to trundle down and pay their hard earned into these devil spawn corporations

Every time I buy something from Waitrose or Sainsburies I get an extra feeling of joy that twatscos are not having my cash. Its like a free feel good factor.

btw this is not a moan as I dont do that 'cough'

/me adds £10 to my lent charity pot

(however if it means 1 more person boycotts these bastards then its worth every penny)

Probably inevitable after the MD of Gamestation moved to Asda a couple of years ago and took loads of his staff with him

The whole trade in thing is a bit of a double edged sword as when games are resold the money is going directly to the retailers rather than the people who make the games. This is why EA have been doing things like the cerberus network in Mass Effect 2 where people that buy the game new are rewarded by getting good free DLC with the game on release. On the other hand some people can't afford to go out and buy new games so they trade in older games and put that money towards a new release so it does also have a hand in driving new game sales. I personally don't bother I like getting my games shiny and new in their cellophane wrapping Very Happy Although trade ins were very handy when I was a poor student I used to trade games in when I had completed them and put the credit towards new ones. Seeing the supermarkets getting involved in this type of thing is a bit worrying for specialist game stores though.

I think its a good idea as the nearest shop to my house is an ASDA.

Plus they are so clueless hopefully I can trade in some of my NON EU games finally.
Maybe even give them some promos!

I personally don't tend to buy many 2nd hand games as you can never be guarenteed of the quality of the product you get. The only "checking" the likes of Game/ Gamestation tend to do on their pre-owned products is a cursory glance on the underside of the disc to see how bad it looks.

The thing with trade-in services they tend to take a little while to take off, the HMV near me had there's going for about 4-5 months before they actually had anything resembling a decent amount of pre-owned titles... not sure the likes of Asda or Tesco will have the patience to stick something like that out as they tend to expect a very swift return on anything they do... could be wrong about this but I don't see this as being that big of a problem for the Game companies just yet.

It's a Tesco local to me that are piloting it. I don't know whether the trade in prices are any good, but the prices they are selling games for are too high. Fuzion Frenzy 2 for £9 for example!
