Microsoft 3rd in NPD Results

NPD announced its monthly sales figures today for December 2009, and for Microsoft, it's a mix of bad news and... well, middling news. For current generation consoles, Microsoft's Xbox 360 came in last with 1.31 million units sold for the reporting period, while Sony's PS3 sold 1.36 million units, and the Wii from Nintendo moved 3.8 million consoles. The software charts are a little better; while Nintendo dominated there as well, Xbox 360 software managed to take the number 3, 8 and 9 positions (with Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 respectively). Meanwhile, Microsoft's off-white box managed to stake out the number 1 and 9 positions on the 2009 total sales charts with Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3: ODST.
