Since the New Dashboard update .....
Since the New dashboard update - I have a gamer on my FL who can not join me in an XboxLive game ........... we tried loads last night and finally got a private match going on COD4 - Its even effecting us playing Arcade games. Both of us havent change anything on our setting and and it hs only happened since the update.
Anybody got any ideas why this is ?????

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
I haven't got a clue. I've had a problem where I'll be in a party with someone and they'll just get kicked out. They'll still be in the game with me but not in a party. I'm not sure if its related to your problem tho. I had it once before and it was due to NAT not being open. Once that was sorted I was loving it.

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
nearly always these problems are to do with NAT settings.
Have you both done the connection test on the xbox dashboard???
Also you have no real way of knowing what your friends setup is.
It is frustrating though, you could always call the xbox help free phone number

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
Thanks guys, but one thing that is stumping me it that we never had a prob b4 the update ???? And we have played allsorts of games
We both have NAT open settings, but we are also experiencing problems connecting to each other in a party too. However we did managed to get a game of Tiger but werent in a party at the time ............very frustrating
Maybe the update needs a patch

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
like I said before, well worth calling the helpline as they are the experts.
You need to get escalated though and not speak to penelopy from Jakarta who has never seen a 360 herself.

try this site :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
it'll tell you how to set your router for the ports you need to have opened.
The ports for xbox live are :
* TCP 80
* UDP 88
* UDP 3074
* TCP 3074
* UDP 53
* TCP 53
as taken from
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Specifically, it is the 3074 ports that are mainly used for gameplay & voice..
port 53 is used for DNS, but your probably already running a DNS server on your router, or linking back to your ISP (or even run your own)
Port 80 is your basic HTTP protocol - likely used to transfer achivements back to MS.. You dont really need to worry about forwarding this one (but having it open might potentially shave off a few 'seconds' of initial transfer time.
Port 88 is Kerberos, which is the security/authentication system.

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
Right this is proabalby going to sound really dense and girly;
I have been having problems connecting to some parties and games since the dashboard up date, not with everyone just a few people. I have just downloaded the port checker thingy and checked the ports on msross' list, none of them are open!! Does this sound a bit odd? What do I do now? I don't really get this NAT millarkey but I am getting a bit annoyed with not being to join people.

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
In an ideal world, you wouldn't need ports to be open, but it sounds like you need to in this instance. I'm guessing, Bunny, that the box is linked to a router and not directly into the modem? (and a Netgear one, possibly?)

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
Bugger, I was hoping you wouldn't say that - I've never worked with a Home Hub before! If you can determine which model your hub is, there's a good guide to opening ports here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - choose your model from the list (BT is there, wayyy down on the left, then choose the program you're trying to access - Xbox has dozens listed, but they're all the same, go with Xbox Live 360, just at the top on the right)
Sorry I can't be of more help - hope this does!

I have worked with and fixed BT homehubs before and they are not hard just very fiddly, if you need any help just give me the model number of your homehub, usually found on the back of the box (sometimes underneath) and I will give you a detailed guide on how to do it, Alternatively I will walk you through it via Xbox live as you don't need to be signed out in order to change settings, only when applying them. Message me regarding this matter and I will give you my undivided attention and sort this problem out for you.

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
Well, I have been working my way through the instructions, went wrong at the end when choosing what device I wanted to apply settings to (I think) now can't get back onto the settings for my broadband (telling me the link is broken when I try and copy my ip address it the search bar at the top). Will try again later.

Do you mean on your pc, You can't get the settings for your internet back up on your pc ? but you can still access the internet right ?

Re: Since the New Dashboard update .....
Of course I meant my pc, wouldn't have been able to post on here or be on XBL without internet. Everything is working fine, just can't get back onto the settings thing to change what I did last therefore problem with connecting to parties and games is still there.
