Konami today announced that PES 2010 will ship to retailers this coming autumn and is set to revamp the whole series after its disappointing showing last year. Konami have expanded the development team numbers and created a number of specialist departments so the series can get back on track.

I just hope this isn't more bluster from Konami. The PES series has really stagnated in recent years and we've yet to see a classic version on the 360. Each year fans are promised a return to form for PES and each year we're left feeling disappointed. They somehow need a complete overhaul whilst retaining the things that make PES great or else they'll continue to lose fans to FIFA. It used to be the case that all FIFA could boast about was its official licenses and everyone knew that if you were looking for brilliant gameplay then PES was your footy game of choice but the gap has closed worringly in recent years. One major issue that Konami surely have to address is the online play which is far and away the laggiest of any game I've ever played online. I know I'll be buying this game regardless just like I do every year but I'm hoping that Konami can deliver on their promises this tiime.

I agree with everything you have said there. Konami just seem to be re-hashing the same game over and over again. The Master League has been in the same format for years now and is in desperate need of a change. Even PES2009 achievements were nealry the same as 2008 ffs. The whole series just smacks of laziness now and i will be going down the FIFA route this year if things dont change. Konami are like Sony, they promise lots but deliver on nothing.

FIFA still bugs me though and i cant seem to get into it. Scoring from outside the box is nigh on impossible. I got fed up with scoring from one on ones with keeper all the time so sold it and bought PES2009. PES is still the better game (gameplay wise) imo but it now really needs to evolve as its all getting a bit stale. The online needs to get sorted once and for all, its light years behind FIFA online. The gap between FIFA and PES online reminds of the gap between Live and PSN. Massive.

I am a PES fan.
I even rented fifa09 for a month to join you guys and get into it.
But I was not impressed with the gameplay at all.
For me it was all bells and whistles but beneath it lack a shooting system that sucked.

In fact I like PES so much I am trying to talk imaboveallthis to run a tournament for us PES heads

I have PES so i'll play kent. I'm undecided on these. I'm a PES guy myself altough I have been getting into fifa.

I guess I'm also like most then. I'd always bin a pes player since the very first one, until 2009 version which put me off so much I had to try FIFA which I've never played since the older versions. But am kinda glad it did cos I love this game. Hopefully pes 10 will be what they say.

I wouldn't believe anything that came from Konami nowadays. PES 2009 online was supposed to be perfect so they claimed. Somewhat suprisingly it was anything but.

Oh man, I don't even need to read that press release. I've been saying this stuff for years.

I was a big PES fan right from the PS1 days. Around PES4 I though 'hang on this is just the same game with tweaks'. Since then all they've done is tweak the game whilst adding new flaws each time.

So when Seabass talks about new features and AI and realism it just amounts to 'this is the same game and for all the new tactics you'll score most of your goals when the keeper spills and you tap it in'.

FIFA crushed PES this year on every level.

I know what you're saying mate but I could never turn to the darkside and start buying FIFA.

I've been disappointed with all the next gen versions of PES and tbh they shouldn't even be called next gen versions as the series has stood still since PES 3.

But in saying that I'll continue to buy PES each year that they make them because its the only football sim I've ever known and no other ones interest me.

Simon, I tentatively tried each FIFA each year and didn't rate them (I loved 98 and 99 but then PES came along and that was that!). It was the 2008 Euros game that EA made that blew me away and FIFA 09 is more of the same. It just does everything. You have so much control over the players and the team in general and it is full of nice touches like controllable celebrations and whatever.

You can even do that move where you stop, put the ball between both feet and then hop. Ludicrous levels of detail.

It's like a modern day SWOS and is much more realistic than the older games and yet more fun with it. Not felt this passionate about a footie game since PES3!

Am hoping Konami eventually get their poop together tho!

bring back iss pro the old pes , which was a game where it took skill to win , unfortunately the last 2 pes have been crap , and fifa 09 is a really good game. Every year i keep buying the pes hoping that this year it will be back to its former greatness but alas its the same garbage, and you what i'll prolly buy it again this year only to trade it back in a few days later.

I've loved my pro evo ever since ISS98 back on the ps1, but for the last couple of years I feel that Konami have rested on their laurels and not produced the next gen footie game that all their fans expect. This video looks good with slower, more considered build up play as opposed to the arcade style offerings of 08 and 09. Hopefully the online will also be fixed, it's been pony since PES6. We'll see come October.

* Slower paced game (though not as slow as Fifa 09)
* Same commentary as usual (although they do have a larger script this time)
* Crowds are finally in full 3d
* New lighting system comes into effect with player likeness and night time games
* The build they played was a 50% complete
* Few new animations like pause/accelerate for certain players
* More logical ways of chesting / trapping / quick turns on the ball (180 degree mentioned)
* Much less time on the ball even tho it is slower especially when playing against teams using a DMC for example
* Some of the lofted or flat through balls are quite powerful in terms of speed of ball unless you use a pinpoint passer when it makes the animation example look smoother
* Took them 3 games until they actually scored against 'Normal' difficulty AI.
* Keepers much improved
* No more PES points, Master League mode uses real currency
* Champs League and Europa League (Uefa Cup) has been incorporated into BAL also mentioned earlier Champs League is online as well (no mention if Europa league is)
* More awards at end of season time (within BAL mode) player of the season | players play etc
* All UEL qualified teams are licensed as well as the promise of a few other surprises
* Transfer window patches throughout the season
* The confirmation the online system in the last 2 versions hasn't worked and they have gone back to PES6 online system (which has been further improved for current gen
* Response time on the ball better
* Can have players (created or non created players) with the option of having tucked or not tucked in shirts
* Penalties and Free Kicks are more 'analogue'

* Champions League will be playable online
* New tatics system called tatics slider focusing on player support | support range | compactnes | defensive line | pressing attacking style | defensive strategy. The slider works on a 0-100 scale.
* New card system replacing the old player ability stars
* Team mates will flood the box if Beckham for eg is about to cross the ball as opposed to a player with less skills in crossing.
* Defenders can be zoned individually or instructed to push on
* BAL created players can be added to master league
* Player comparisons (between 2009 and 2010) are very impressive players shown Torres | Gerrard | Alonso | Messi | Eto'o | Xavi | Iniesta
* There shall be no Konami ID used for 2010
* The online system used in Pro Evo 6 will be used and enhanced they have finally dropped 2008 | 2009's online system
* No visible loading times
* Loop headers are in
* Ability to auto-select team members by condition | ability and balance
* More balanced refs which also use the advantage rule
* AI no longer makes automatic tackling | shooting decisions
* More focused commentary
* Lots of extra player specific goal celebration
* Revised penalty system which offers more control
* Much better goalkeepers
* No more Konami ID. its now hosted on Sony's servers (on the The Big Black Dust Collector that plays DVD's version of course)

What did they remove:

* Al no longer makes automatic tackling/shooting decisions
* Players no longer freeze after freekicks
* No 'simple' settings menu in tactics. Your key changes are made with sliders

Licences:

* I am a glory hunter and Liverpool are the licensed teams from the Premiership again this year. Anfield is also in the game!
* Full Spanish, French, Italian and........ GERMAN leagues!
* The full team rosters are to be confirmed (ie the other leagues section: Rangers, Celtic, Spartak Moscow etc...)
* Another snippet people might like to know is that when EA's contract expires with the Premierleague, they might decide to share the licence with Konami. This is by no way confirmed, just a possibility.

F*ck me Eddie that's a blinding preview, I'm now looking forward to the game a lot more after all that!

for all the talk of new Teamvision AI and a million other 'refinements', the majority of games will be tense 1-0s settled by the keeper spilling the ball.

online will be f**ked.

everyone will play as Real Madrid.

the game will play the same as every PES game since ISS Pro Evo 2.

it doesn't leave you with confidence that you have the PES director doing interviews before the release of each previous game bigging it up... then soon afterwards saying how badly they have not pushed forward and will do next year...

I played this (PES series, not this game!) originally on the N64 & it was great.. PES 5 on xbox 1 was good, PES 6 is crap (& even more so in the achievements I'm trying to complete, there's no enjoyment in it).. unless there's a serious change in the way new pes is designed all the above 'selling points' remain salesman shite and should be ignored.. fifa suffered for years until more recently consolidating and becoming a decent game (I'm told).. perhaps its good that competition is back & pes will get their arse kicked for a year or two to thus rise to the game

from what mainstream adverts I've seen from PES, they have very much concentrated on wii development rather than 'next gen'.. I always thought it was because they devving for ps2 & porting.. seems they're just not bothering instead.

I won't be buying 2010 for a long while as I have decided I need to Finish PES6, 08 and 09 first!
I Love PES but this is the first year I am missing out.
