The beta of PS Now has started to charge for rentals and the prices are currently no cheaper than to buy the games second-hand.

Cloud gaming service PlayStation Now has moved into the second stage of its beta trial in the UK, as Sony try out various pricing systems to stream and play games.

PS Now allows you to stream PlayStation 3 games direct to your console (and others devices) without needing to download them. It uses the Gaikai streaming tech that Sony bought a few years ago, with the ultimate aim being to also offer PlayStation 4, 2, and one games.

For now though Sony are just testing the service works and trying to decide how it should be paid for. The following is a first attempt, and these are unlikely to be the final prices, but they are pretty steep:

PS3 retail games: £4.99 for two days or £9.99 for 30 days.
PS3 PSN games: £2.99 for two days or £7.99 for 30 days.

It’s not extortionate, but there aren’t many PlayStation 3 era games you can’t just buy second-hand for around £10, and those you get to own permanently and not worry about your broadband connection.

There’ll also be a monthly subscription option for the final version of the service, but Sony don’t seem to have decided on a price for that yet.

I am on the beta and have now stopped using it due to the pricing.
The second hand market is cheap as chips for ps3 now like you say.
A single monthly cost of £9.99 for as many games as you want would work, but I am sure it will be £15 or £20
That said I know some people are not careful like me and will drop £50+ on an digital download so I am not really the target market

I pay for ea access and see that as good value for money £30 a year I think or £5 a month for the games in the vault. Also digital I spend the extra so I can have two licences for me and other half to game together.
