Majoras mask 3D
We’ve had enough with the teases, now it’s official: THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA’S MASK 3D is coming to 3DS this spring.
Nintendo made the announcement just a few minutes ago during their Winter Nintendo Direct presentation, focusing on upcoming 3DS and Wii U titles. Along with the announcement of the title, Nintendo was kind enough to send along a trailer for the remake, and damn does Nintendo know how to make a fifteen year old game look good on the 3DS.
Over the past few years we’ve heard little hints and slivers about MAJORA’S MASK coming back in some form or another. Last year’s LINK TO THE PAST sequel, A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS, featured the titular mask prominently displayed on the wall of one of the main characters. That, on top of near constant teasing and referencing from Nintendo of the long unseen game, made this announcement a foregone conclusion, more a question of when than if.
One of the big reasons we haven’t gotten another game in the series is that MAJORA’S MASK is one of the “cult hits” in the ZELDA franchise. It’s a really weird one when compared to the previous title, OCARINA OF TIME, and even the weird game that followed it, THE WINDWAKER. It deals with loss and grief and death and dread and all these incredibly weighty themes when compared to the simplicity of Zeldas like LINK TO THE PAST. The recent LINK BETWEEN WORLDS was the closest in theme, but even the heaviest parts of the supposedly darkest Zelda, TWILIGHT PRINCESS, didn’t approach the constant feeling of dread in MAJORA’S MASK brought on by the fact that the end of the world was always, well, just a few days away.

Never fully finished this but enjoyed what I played on the N64. Kinda tempted to get a 3ds again just for all the zelda games you can get now.
