The Legend of Korra is based on an animated TV show of the same name and is the follow on from “Avatar the Last Airbender”. The game sees the Avatar Korra fighting her way to face the “big bad” Hundun, after he has blocked her chi so she is unable to manipulate the elements. As you progress through the levels you regain your bending powers, water, earth, fire and air. Until finally you can enter the portal to the spirit world and take on the final boss.
The Legend of Korra is single player only, the game plays well with easy to follow on screen instructions, the story is short, it me took 5 hours to finish it. The graphics are ok with no long loading times. The game is very linear, not much in the way of exploring to do, there are a few side areas with chests etc. The battles are such that, unless you are fighting the lower level enemies you do actually need to think about counter moves, dodging, blocking etc. So you can’t just button bash your way through the game, you will come across some quick time finishing moves too. Although enemy difficulty varies immensely and some of the bosses are a bit tricky.
There are a few parts in the game where you have to ride a dog x polar bear thing (Naga) … this is in my opinion annoying and unnecessary (although maybe true to the cartoon so very necessary)
Throughout the game you will come across chests containing collectibles, these collectibles get converted into Spirit Energy (the in game currency) which can be spent in the shop on healing items, talismans and combos. You will need a lot of this Spirit Energy to purchase all the combos and Talismans so smash everything you can and open as many chests as you can, you also get Spirit Energy for defeating enemies.
After you have completed the story, you can access “Pro-Bending” the other game mode… arena style battling you team up with 2 AI and use your bending skills against a team of 3. There are varying levels of difficulty, the next one unlocks after you have completed the previous. There really isn't all that much to say about this mode.
Overall this is an enjoyable little game. Some parts I found a bit tricky and the dog / polar bear bits did have me swearing at the Xbox. It does feel like there is something missing from this game… you give someone the power to wield all 4 elements and never the incentive to use all 4, or mix them into a multi element combo. Water is used for ranged attacks, earth for close up and air for many enemies… fire (usually my weapon of choice in any game) is pretty poor and possibly the element I used least. I have not played Avatar: the Last Air Bender nor watched the TV show of the Legend of Korra, however, this game does have the feel of a not-so-well-thought-out-spin-off.
Achievement wise… this is no Avatar! Saying that they do seem fairly straight forward, I unlocked 330gs just running through the story on casual for the review, it will require 2 play throughs’ to get the full 1000 as you need to unlock the extreme difficulty by finishing the story on normal (3 play throughs’ for me then!).
I’ll give it 6.5/10 – This games could have been so much more.

Nice review Bunny. Sounds ok but nothing special.
Looks like it is getting pretty mediocre reviews across the gaming community too. Shame, but perhaps one to consider if/when it goes on sale?

Yep single player only and it is a pretty mediocre game, it will be worth picking up if on sale, it is fairly enjoyable. Some of the achievements will be a bit grindy.
Kent - no problem, always available for the smaller games like this.

Nice review Bunny, and well done on stepping up. Not a game i'd be too bothered about picking up though. I suppose it might appear in the Games for gold at some point though.
