So yet again there has been an outbreak of a deadly Virus, that has turned most of the population into Zombies. Time to jump in your car, bolt on some weapons and kill as many as possible.

Originally released on XBLA, Zombie Driver Ultimate Edition has been reworked and given a polish for its release on the Xbox One. It is a top down viewed racer, with added weapons blood and of course as the title suggests Zombies. An explosive mix of racing, blood, gore and guns. Smashing, crashing and blasting your way through the 31 Story missions. Or you can take part in the Blood Race tournament where you can chase and take down other cars, in one of 36 events. Or try and stay alive in one of the 9 Slaughter arenas. With 15 drivable vehicles including a Taxi, Bulldozer, Fire Engine and even a Tank.

As well as improving the graphics and frame rate, they have doubled the number of Zombies on screen, and to help you defeat the the extra hordes, increased the number of weapons placed around the city. They have also added all of the DLC that was created for the previous version, plus some extra car skins that were never released.

The Story mode, is a mission based game mode where you must complete tasks to move to the next level. The missions range from killing a certain number of zombies, to protecting other vehicles against the Zombie hordes. Also there are Secondary missions in most of the levels, which give you more money and weapons or unlock extra vehicles.

Blood race mode is as it sounds. Racing around the tracks whilst trying to destroy the other racers, and avoiding the roaming Zombie hordes.

Slaughter mode is a battle to stay alive in one of the 9 Arenas, for as long as possible by killing wave after wave of Zombies. Whilst also collecting weapons and other power ups such as Health and Armour.

The graphics are very nicely detailed, and certainly look good, though you might struggle a bit on a small screen. There are some good effects, with fog and smoke etc. Although the screen can get a bit crowded at times, making it difficult to see which direction your car is pointing.

Controls are fairly straight forward, and for anyone used to playing Top Down racers, they will feel natural. Although it took me a while to get used to them again.

Achievements are fairly steady at popping. With quite a few of them tied into the Story mode or kills with specific vehicles. Looking down the list of achievements I haven't yet unlocked there is a couple that might be a little bit time consuming, but it should certainly be a Maxxable game (TA is currently showing 73 people out of 607, as having completed it).

All in all Zombie Driver HD is a fun game, and it does look good. If your not used to top down racers, then the controls might feel a bit awkward at first, but stick with it and you soon get the hang of them. I don't think there will be much Replay value once you finish it. And I would consider £12 maybe a little much for what is basically a reworked XBLA game.

However I will give it a 7 out of 10

Interesting read. I passed on this on XBLA, even when it was on sale, as it seemed clunky and extremely repetitive.

I don't know quite how much has been reworked but I think it would need to be quite a lot to make this game enter my purchase list. But hey that's just my opinion - I'd be interested to hear what others think too. Smile

I don't think I played the XBLA version, but from what i've seen of the gameplay and screenshots, its pretty much the same game.

Im surrprised they re-released this. Did the 1st one reallys eel that great? I dont think it warranted a Xbox one release.

I'd say redo like something BIG like Castle Crashers or uhhhhhhhh Shank?
