Damn this is crappy news for me as my xbox sounds like a 747 on takeoff when I run discs 
edit, looking at the video doesn't look to bad. I'd rather have pop in than constant aircraft traffic

You can install to a USB drive and it will work fine, that's what I have done.
But make sure you have at least 8 GB free on it and its a fast drive not a cheapy one

Mine just arrived, installing the actual install disk, the wait is agonizing. Half way through though
