This is not a joke. It's a real thing that's happening. It's being released in October on the same day as Pokemon X & Y. A 3DS that does away with the 3D.....

Are they getting rid of the ability to fold it too then? (did watch the video, will look later) if so I don't like that. I like the option of moving my screens to suit me with my DS.

Yep. Doesn't fold. Doesn't 3D.

am I just being dim or are these cunts actually going backwards in time faster that my bird wolfs a trifle

Whilst the real world awaits with baited breath the release of the new super powerful next gen consoles, ninty is going to be bringing out a game'n'watch lookie likie and pokemon

you cant make it up

maybe my 3ds is speshul as I can turn off the 3d with the slider at the side

that cannot be on anyone elses otherwise it would make this 2ds even more fucking pointless

just googling now as I am sure ballmer must have secured a transfer to Big N

Here is an idea Nintendo, update your firmware so we can move or rescue our profiles and switch off your menu muzak before you start releasing anymore pointless shit

I am going to wait for the 2DS XL

But being priced at £109.99 I expect some sellers to drop it to £99 for xmas so I reckon it will sell!

I want a pipe full of what Reggie is smoking!

Imagine a standard 3DS laid all the way flat, and with the depth slider all the way down,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime explained to IGN. “Everything else is there in the system.”

“We’re always thinking about what we can do that’s new, unique, different, and brings more people into this category that we love,. And so with the Nintendo 3DS, we were clear to parents that, ‘hey, we recommend that your children be seven and older to utilize this device.’ So clearly that creates an opportunity for five-year-olds, six-year-olds, that first-time handheld gaming consumer.

"We’ve always been thinking about, 'how do we approach that as one target?' And that certainly helped spur the idea of the Nintendo 2DS. Let’s have the consumer have access to all of these great games – Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing – but do it in a 2D capability with a device that has a dramatically lower price point. That’s just an example of how we’re always thinking about, ‘how do we get more people playing games? How do we get more people playing Nintendo games?

simple answer to your last point Reggie...release something new gamewise more than once every 25 years and turn off the cunting muzak!

oh and apparently gonna cost with the case you will need to protect the screens about the same as a 3ds

Pass the hash pipe Reg mate

A very strange idea, although kiddies may be wanting it for Christmas with it being cheap, 3DS XL is the way to go I play mine every day

It's gonna shift a load of units via parents as an affordable way for kids to play Pokemon. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a 2DS/Pokemon bundle.

If they bring out a limited edition one for a game I like, I would buy it.

They will never beat the Gameboy Micro for perfect form though

Oh yes... if they bring out a limited edition Pokemon bundle one I'd be all over that, unless it's a bloody yellow Pikachu one, people really need to get over Pikachu, there are many better Pokemon!

Ooohh... starting on a Pokemon rant.... sign I need to get a life!

This is obviously aimed at the playground pokemon battles. A smart move by Nintendo to make an entry level affordable device for it. I still see way more kids with a ds and the main reason is they are still playing pokemon.
