This will be my last mini for a little while for obvious reasons

Now I have played this through 3 times and its the closest thing I have come to one of my all time faves System Shock 2

You are playing the role of Isaac who is trying to stop something that he is not too sure about as he is sufferening from acute flashbacks and memory problems

Its set on a colony planet and most of the drama takes place at different sections of this colony with some excellent parts where you are weightless

The storyline is utterly superb and really requires no previous knowledge of Dead Space 1.

For the achs you will need to play through the story at least twice, but the strange thing is that you will really want too. In fact the second run through is even better as you are aware of what happens to each character and so the dialog holds a far greater meaning.

I played through twice on easy and then had started again on Zealot but sadly thats as far as I got before boom time lol

The weapons and upgrade system means you are careful about what you spend but the atmosphere generated is the thing that hit you most.

I was enjoying the early stages of my first play thru but that pleasure was intensified when I reached the latter stages and remained all the way on the second time around. You can beat the whole thing second time in about 7 hours and that includes a lot of setting up things to get the different weapon based achs and you get to keep all of the goodies you bagged on your first play so its far easier.

The graphics are quite amazing but for me the star of the show is the sound effects which combined with the spooky lighting effects really get you on the edge of your sofa

I enjoyed this so much I am awarding it 9.5/10 as nothing in life is perfect (except group sex at the playboy mansion)

Nice one. I didn't really like this game in comparison to the original. Just didn't seem as atmospheric to me.

Also.....as good as it would be, group sex at the Playboy Mansion means a slight chance of seeing Heff-balls. Not my idea of perfection. affraid

Good review chap. I think these games would scare the crap out of me. I saw the Zombie playing one once and that looked a bit tense for my liking... I'm a bit of a wimp really lol

Also I don't think sex in the playboy mansion would be perfect... what if heff slipped and your crossed swords? Or worse... lol

Good review mate. Amazing game. Also this reminds me, I still need to go back and finish off a few achievements on this.

I'm playing through this currently and am loving it. I'm currently going for one of the toughest achievements I've come across for a long time - completing the game on hardcore which allows you only 3 saves. It's tough but really enjoying tackling it.

Good luck with that mate, never attempted it myself, I have thought about giving it a go a few times though. If I remember correctly there's a checkpoint when you make it to the second disc, right?

Wicked Mini!

These games are the best horror I've experienced in years, and that includes movies! You simply HAVE to play them with the lights off in the early hours with 5.1 headphones! brilliant!

Aye there is. i had my first save on chapter 5, then my second beginning of Chapter 9. I was planning on putting my next save before the eye needle, but I got battered on the drill so I'll probably save before that instead

playing on zealot now again and its getting tres de tough

Managed to do the drill bit in one go (v pleased) but am now at the end of Ch 13 and am too low on ammo to proceed in my normal gung ho stylee

So please I played through on casual first as being able to enjoy the storyline without the endless dying was ace

Tremendous title this

Great game, a lot of people complained about it not being as good as the first one, I thought it was just as good and just as scary. affraid

Hardcore is a real challenge with strategic saving but I'm on the last section now. I actually almost finished it last night but I made the mistake of selling my plasma cutter and just using force gun. Stormed through the last chapters, got to the boss and realised the force gun doesn't damage the boss at all! The D'OH!! could be heard from Spain I'm sure!!

plama cutter is my weapon of choice

my first playthru i only used it and no other weapon

i find the force gun and the contact beam to be shite and am doing this run through mainly with the plas and the flamethrower

Is hardcore tougher than zealot in gameplay or is it just the lack of saves that make it tough?

I'll be honest I haven't played through on Zealot to compare, but I would assume so. Completing Hardcore lets you obtain the awesome hand cannon, a giant foam finger which does huge amounts of damage accompanied by 'Bang, bang, pew, pew' noises. Theres a video below showing it off.

I thought the force gun was rubbish but when you power up the alt-fire it takes out most necros in one shot and the black ones in two, it makes the game a lot easier when your one shotting most enemies

BOOM!! Finally beat it on Hardcore mode!! I must admit this is definitely one of my proudest achievements, I even did a little dance which I haven't done since I did the Anniversary achievement for Halo 3 requiring you to finish the last level on ghosts! Now just Zealot difficulty and DLC to do which should be a cake walk with the foam finger of death.

Enjoy Hardcore mode Everton, it's a challenge but a rewarding one when you do so!
