Williams Pinball Classics
System 3 Software
For those to young to remember, Williams were the creators of some of the greatest arcade machines of the 80's, including Robotron 2084, Defender, Joust to name a few.
They also made some classic pinball machines and this collection brings together some of the best of that era.
There are 13 tables in this collection ranging from 1970 to 1997 and all except the oldest table Jive Time are playable from the start.
When you first start the game you are given a few tables set to free play and a number of credits which you can use to play the other tables.
As you reach certain goals on a tables you are given extra credits to spend either on playing other tables or to purchase the tables freeplay.
To buy a tables freeplay is 100 credits.
There are 2 goals for each table.
A Basic Goal and a Wizard Goal and each of these also unlocks an achievement for each table.25g for the Basic and 50g for the Wizard
There are tutorials for each table within the game explaining lanes, drop targets etc and the best ways to score which are very well done and invaluable when trying for the Wizard goals.
Graphically all the tables are pretty good without being spectacular, and there are 10 camera angles, 5 fixed and five smart.Although annoyingly they dont lock so you have to set the angle each time you play.
The sound is what you would expect from a pinball game albeit with a few retro effects like the very 80's digitised speech.
The gameplay in my opinion is spot on with the all important ball physics being nigh on perfect.
The more you play each table you really do get the feel for it and the way it works and scores.
So is it worth buying?
Well if you like pinball then this is definitely a good rendition of the game, especially with a recommended retail price of £24.99, and for the undecided, at that price it certainly worth a go.......you never know, you might just get hooked.
A big thumbs up from me 7.5/10
