Call of Duty Elite
Although it's a another money grabbing attempt, the video is at least kinda cool.
I'm about 100% certain I'll never pay for this. £8 a month to look at stats is way too much...

Re: Call of Duty Elite
Soooo, basically they are going to charge for a service that Bungie have offered on their website for the halo games for free for the last 4/5 years?

Re: Call of Duty Elite
The sad thing is, is that I can see people paying for this. I deal with people everyday whoonly buy and play one game a year - COD. It's such a waste of having a 360 but I suppose if this sort of service was available for say Counterstrike a few years ago, it would have been massively succesful

Re: Call of Duty Elite
But counterstrike is awesome . And has been awesome for years.

Re: Call of Duty Elite
Don't really see the point in this to be honest, but if it's the premium online content that was being talked about it could be worse. I was under the impression that Activision were going to charge a monthly sub to play online.
It'll only add to the unhealthy obsession that a lot of COD players have with stats though. I'd like to see leaderboards, kill/death and win/loss ratios got rid of personally.

Re: Call of Duty Elite
So first they raise the retail price of the game from the standard £44.99 to £54.99 and now they are starting to charge for basic info that you get for free with every other game.
As a whole community we have to say no to this, It starts this way, with a voluntary 'premium' and escalates to a compulsary online charge for COD, as soon as other game developers see that people are willing to pay for this kind of stuff it WILL become the norm. It is imperative that we all, the whole gaming community fight against this. Viva La Revoultion!!!
If you have the attitude that it doesnt effect you because you dont play COD, dont be fooled. This will open the flood gates to premium charges for every game.

Meh.....I was planning on buying this for the single player only. I'll wait until it's gone on sale. Second hand and on sale at that.

Rep given mate, this is post of the day!
You hit the nail on the head,ALL other publishers will follow suit.
Just like the codes now included in new games for online content, now appearing in nearly all games.
Re: Call of Duty Elite
To play Devil's Advocate, "the codes now included in new games for online content" are needed because game developers dont make any money from second hand sales. If they stop making money, they stop making games.

Surely a point charge of 800m$ would suffice though for people who don't have the online play code instead of charging us £7 or £8 per month much like Homefront, FIFA, need for speed - to name but a few

Re: Call of Duty Elite
I have nothing against the online pass system, because i mostly buy new games. So long as the money is going back to the developers, or is being used to keep the servers online.
But i don't think there is a need for subscription based gaming on consoles. I think its just pure greed, and agree that other company's will follow suit if they think they can make more money out of it.
The problem is, so many sheep will buy CoD, and probably sign up for the elite sub. That it will look like a great business model, to the other developers.

Completely agree, the problem is though as Niteowl says there are some people who only play cod, some of my friends fall into this category; Every christmas they get the latest cod game and play that and nothing else all year; and because they have nothing to compare it too they will pay whatever they are asked, so when the map packs are released at stupid prices most of us will be shocked but a lot of these guys never buy any other dlc so they don't know the difference and get them as soon as they are released

Re: Call of Duty Elite
But hey they're getting their own unique Call of Duty TV show which only they can watch. with 'Top Hollywood talent' (see here for more info). Wow only they'll be able to watch that I doubt anyone will put up on Youtube for free or pirate. Aren't they lucky they're paying £8 a month for that, I'd hate to pay £10 a month for a TV license and be forced to watch hundreds of TV programmes of varying subjects and styles. Well i know I'll be buying the Elite package now

Re: Call of Duty Elite
The only COD game I've ever bought was COD II and that was taken back to the store as the online gameplay was broken at the time of purchase. I haven't bought a COD game since and the ones I have played, I've borrowed from friends. This 'elite' add-on, although not compulsory, makes me think I will probably never buy another game in the series.

Rather donate £8 a month to charity rather than giving it to Activision.

There is a interesting article here on how Call of Duty Elite improves multiplayer for both experts AND novices.

Some of it sounds promising, like the groups thing. But only if it actually works, and personally I still wouldn't pay for it/ join up for it. Have some rep for the info

He says "Everything described and shown here is free. Paid “premium” elements of Elite have yet to be announced", so for nothing i think its quite a good thing.
