Mass Effect 3 Empty Mass Effect 3

With Mass Effect 3 coming out this year, I thought now would be a good time to start the 'Official Mass Effect 3' thread. Where we can post everything related to the game, and get even more hyped Smile.

So far there's this trailer:

I've jsut read this on the Shopto Blog. It has a few spoilers though so don't read if you don't like spoilers.

Game Informer has some brand new details on Mass Effect 3, and thanks to NeoGaf so do we.

Someone has used the popular social site to post up the latest details on Mass Effect 3 straight from the US gaming magazine.

So what do we know? Well before we start, remember there will be some spoilers here.

The story starts with Shepard on Earth, effectively on trial in regard to the events of Arrival, and in the middle of the trial, the Reapers invade. It then seems that Shepard’s escapes to the Normandy and goes off to start finding allies, all while fighting Reaper troops along the way.

Squadmates joining him along the way include Liara, Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus and James Sanders, also confirmed to appear as Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson.

The Illusive Man also plays a prominent role, while Cerberus is out to kill Shepard, although we do not know the reason why at this point.

Finally the RPG element has been refined, giving players more freedom with the character skills. Skill trees will be larger, and powers will evolve several times instead of just once, offering even more freedom. Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon’s combat performance and its appearance.

Also, all classes will be able to wield all weapons unhindered now, although they will have limited slots to carry them. Only the Soldier can carry all weapons at once, meaning the others will probably be limited in their carry capacity.

The game will also have numerous endings, some good, some bad, and who you have in your squad and which allies you recruit can have a drastic effect on which endings are available.

Gameinformer's May issue will have a special preview on Mass Effect 3 with 12 pages of info, screenshots and art.

Also below is an interview with Bioware co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk where they talk about ME3

I need to try and forget about this game for a few months, seriously can't wait for it. if I could only play one more game this year it would be ME3.

I'm really looking forward to this too. I couldn't get into ME2 on my first playthrough and quit before the end, but completely loved it on my 2nd and it's now one of my favourite games.

Arrival DLC is good but short. Niteowl has a mini-review of it [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Smile

Taken from xbox360achievements

Fresh details for Mass Effect 3 have emerged on the BioWare forums, courtesy of a Spanish games magazine. One forum member has taken the salient information from the feature in the publication and condensed them into a list of handy bullet points.

There's aspects like new acrobatic action moves for Shepard, such as rolling and jumping, as well as SWAT-style manoeuvres. There will be new enemies with specific weak points to aim for, customisable weapons and more. Some new locations and environments have also been revealed.

This is all according to a translation from the unnamed Spanish magazine of course and we've tweaked the language in the bullet points to make for easier reading, but all the same, perhaps a small pinch of salt might be in order for some of this, just to be on the safe side.

Have a gander at what has been gleaned from the forum post:

* New Cerberus' troops include mechas, assault units and ninja-style shock troops.
* Reapers come in different sizes, ranging from the smaller 500-600 metre ships to the 2km long Herald. That's big.
* New skills for Shepard: apparently he or she will be able to roll, jump and find cover a bit like Max Payne.
* There will be SWAT moves enabling Shepard to turn and strike the enemy with a greater variety of melee attacks. It specifically mentions "a new class: Heavy Melee" who will take advantage of these capabilities of combat.
* More new skills: The Engineer class can build turrets.
* Customisable Weapons, guns, sights and so on. Each category will have five variants.
* There will be more items to "loot."
* Space Battles are a possibility, but they're unconfirmed.
* Environments will be larger in scale with people going about their business, ships fighting in the distance and architecture rendered in greater detail. New lighting techniques have been implemented improving the atmosphere and the number of dynamic elements.
* New locations to visit will include New York, London, a moon of either a Quarian or Krogan world, a Salarian world and Mars, among others. Each environment took about 6 months to create, apparently.
* You can inflict dynamic damage upon enemies. The Cerberus mechas, for example, will require hitting a weak point on their glass cockpit to disable them. You'll also be able to cut off the arms, break the head or break various pieces of armour on other enemies.
* Combat is supposedly more dynamic, forcing more frequent movement. The game speed is apparently up by 10-15%.
* Exploration won't include driving vehicles like the Mako or Hammerhead. This doesn't necessarily rule out vehicles completely, but there's no plans or details on vehicles at the moment. There is also a new scanning system, which presumably means that mineral mining could be back again. Yipee!

Mass Effect 3 has been delayed until early next year. Although it makes sense giving it a longer development time, and it not going up against some of this years releases sales wise , this news still made me sad inside Sad

EA are seeming to favour a Jan / Feb launch window more and more for their more gamer orientated games.

In a word, this is LAME. With the delay though the game will be even more awesome so even though its disappointing hopefully it will be worth it

can't help but feel a little disappointed with this news, I guess extra development time should equal a more polished game though, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

The last one came out Jan/Feb last year anyway, so this isn't that big of a deal. With Gears 3 and everything else, the extra time should mean I've got less distractions.

EDIT: Erm....what's with the neg rep?

I'm looking forward to it, but glad it got delayed at the same time. It gives Bioware time to make it even more polished and epic, and it avoids the crazy release schedule you always get towards the end of the year. Now it's coming out next year, it won't get lost in the Christmas rush and hopefully more people will pick it up. If it's anywhere near as good as ME2 I'll be happy! Smile

I guess I'm the only one thats actually REALLY glad it got delayed, and from a purely selfish point of view......It gives me chance to catch up as i haven't played mass effect 1 or 2 yet (I borrowed 1 from a mate but havent played it yet :O ) this will give me a chance to catch up with everyone! oh and yeah im sure a delayed title release will give a more polished game end product (this is an after thought though!) lol

Really can't wait for this to come out as I really loved the first two games. I do hope that they don't put in a multiplayer as I feel that it will ruin the single player campaign.
