It's just I'm really REALLY excited about this.

Title Update 6 is on it's way for Gears Of War 2 and amongst other things it's bringing a so called "social" system where ANYBODY can join an ongoing ranked match, even Horde. This is exactly what's been missing from Gears 2 multiplayer. They had it in Gears 1 but took it away...
Now, I know that any Tom, Dick or even Harry who joins could be a total noob, a total elite or even just a total knob but this is one of the best ways to meet new people playing your favourite game... well, it's my favourite anyway. Smile

"Title Update 6 makes these new improvements:
Adds a new public multiplayer match option called Social Xbox LIVE (aka player matches), open to anyone who owns all downloadable maps (that is, All Fronts Collection). We’ll be having a promotion that will dramatically reduce the cost of the All Fronts Collection.
You can join Social Matches in progress and can quit any time without penalty, although players who quit a match early don’t receive earned experience (XP) from that match.
Social matchmaking lets your party join a match in progress. If a match is not found, your party hosts a new match, filling any empty player slots with bots.
Social Matches automatically cycle to the next map without further matchmaking.
Teams are rebalanced between matches based on XP level without splitting parties.
If you quit, your spot is taken by a bot until a new player joins the match. That new player can join while the match is in progress.
If you join a match in progress, you are assigned a team based on XP level and party size.
If you join a match in progress, you replace a bot at the earliest opportunity: at the first bot’s death for respawning game types (for example, Annex) and at round completion for Warzone, Execution, and Wingman.
Social leaderboards become part of the War Journal.
Renames Public Matches to Ranked Xbox LIVE Matches to differentiate these from Social Xbox LIVE Matches, and adds some improvements to these matches.
Improved host selection using bandwidth testing and previous hosting data has been added.
Before the match begins, teams are balanced based on XP without splitting parties.
Renames Private Matches to Custom Xbox LIVE Matches and makes these matches invite-only.
Adds the ability to join Horde sessions that are in progress.
In Social Horde, you can join a session in progress through matchmaking and you are able to continue your session from the last wave you failed without starting over.
In Ranked Horde, you can join a session in progress only through invites.
If you join a session in progress, at the end of the session you receive the score you achieved during the time you spent in the session.
Improves the precision of weapon selection using the D-pad.
Improves client-side hit detection for ballistic weapons."

I swear social matches were in Gears 1.

The reason I stopped playing Gears 2 was because there was only Ranked.

In Gears 1 you could host a "private" match but leave it open, ie NOT "friends only".
Then every idiot under the sun could join. That's how I met most of the idiots I play with now. Very Happy

Reading the details on this Title Update it sounds like you'll soon be able to do this even with ranked matches that are "social".

so if I read this correctly its......

we have taken your cash and left out a feature that should always have been there

now everyone who was going to pay top dollar has paid it we will have a sale price on the DLC

hopefully folks will think we are great even though we have actually been twats

just in time for our new GOW3 hype frenzy

its ok folks you can all rest easily
nothing cynical about this update at all

Not sure I like the idea of splitting up your party based on XP level. If you're in a party I'd say it's pretty obvious you want to be playing together, not against each other. Also, XP is no indicator of skill level, just a measure of how long you've played the game.
I do like the idea of being able to join an already in progress Horde session, that should come in very useful.
Hope I'm reading it right, I think it's suggesting you still get XP from these new social matches, just not if you quit and no penalty for doing so. I still say anyone who quits should be punished.
The bandwidth thing for seeing who gets host, that's long overdue!

Sounds great hope it works for the horde achievements. I've only got the reach wave 50 ones left now in horde so it would be nice if others were able to come and go while helping me out to them and not stuck in to a full 50 wave game.

I only play hoard as ranked mp is laggy as hell, 90% of players are American so connections are always crap.

This is mostly true...

I think four out of five games can be laggy and are REALLY REALLY controller throwingly frustrating... but that fifth game... that game where everything works. Very Happy

god i miss the gears 1 shotty them was the days 2 pops of the trigger and u got a head pop.
