Red Rings of death
Well it has finally happened, after nearly 2 years my XBox has died suffering with the red rings of death, so I will probably be offline for a while now.
If I decide to buy a new console, I know it should be easy to transfer my xBox live membership over, but how/what do i need to do to transfer mt saved game data over??
What a great start to 2010

Re: Red Rings of death
You can either just move your hard drive, use a memory card or get a free transfer cable from Microsoft here

Re: Red Rings of death
If you do end up getting a new xbox you will need a data transfer cable Data Transfer Cable EbayYou can fix this yourself though and it does work
If you think you cannot do this yourself i am sure ther is plenty of shops around your way that will be able to do this for you.

Re: Red Rings of death
Decided to buy a new one, so quickly went to Sainsburys before it shut and got an Elite with 3 games for £199.99, so within 2 hours of my old one suffering the Red Rings of Death, I am back.....
Will try my luck with Microsoft to see if I can get the old one fixed as a backup

Re: Red Rings of death
Mine died a couple of months ago and they sent a new one back to me 7 days after picking the old one up so it wasn't too bad wig any luck you'll get the same treatment and have a shiny new backup console!

Re: Red Rings of death
Glad you are sorted Dazz
Always good to have a back up 360
Whilst the RROD story has been overhyped to death, it is a fact that it could strike you down especially if you have an older style box.
Data or account transfer is a doddle though, but just remember any Arcade titles you had on your old 360 will only be playable if you are connected to LIVE on your new machine due to the DRM issue.

They are fully playable offline too as long as you take a few minutes to transfer content licenses across to the new console via the xbox.com website... after that it is a simple case of downloading the items again to the new console (which takes a couple of seconds if the content is already on the HD - which to be honest it will be if you are bothered about going through the above steps for it)
Al in all took me 15 minutes to sort out my license content transfer gubbins.

Re: Red Rings of death
The transfer cable turned up today - I have followed the instructions provided, put the disc in.......and nothing happens. XBox tells me it is a mixed media disc.
What am I doing wrong, I am sure it is something obvious, but I can't work out what.

It might be that you don't have the right disc. What size hard drive did you have previously? One version of the disc will only do transfers from 20 gb to 120gb. I'm not sure how you tell if you have the right disc.

Re: Red Rings of death
Previously had a 20GB, now have a 120GB.
A put the disc in my pc to see what was on it, and there are several files so not sure if I should copy a certain file to a disc and do it that way.
I got the transfer kit off of ebay......

Re: Red Rings of death
Looks like the wrong software has been included - it looks like it is the software an Xplorer 360.....
And the ebay shop doesn't take returns even though the wrong software has been provided. Teach me to use them reslly I suppose. Time to contact Microsoft.

I couldnt agree more with both points. I have a spare on stand by now and have had for a while because i have suffered 6 RROD's so far. I still believe that it is a massively overhyped story though and i have just been unlucky.
