Infection is Finally Coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Infection may be coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection soon, according to the latest weekly update on Halo Waypoint.

Among the reams of info included in the update is a reference to the popular zombie mode. “The playlist team continues to work on future updates, and it’s quite likely that we’ll be talking more about things like Infection in the coming weeks,” says the post.

343 Industries has previously said a version of Infection will be included in The Master Chief Collection’s Halo 2: Anniversary. It was desribed by 343i at RTX 2014 as "old-school, Halo 2 Infection". However, updates have been thin on the ground since then.

Infection began life as a custom mode in Halo 2 and featured properly in Halo 3 and Halo: Reach. Halo 4 also included a variant of Infection called Flood.

Infection pits a number of zombie players against a team of uninfected players. It's the zombies' job to infect the other team by killing them, while everyone else atempts to remain unifected for as long as possible. The last uninfected player becomes the "Last Man Standing".
