Velocity 2X Making the Jump From PlayStation to Xbox One
Futurlab and Sierra are teaming up to bring Velocity 2X to Xbox One, following the highly-rated shooter/platformer’s release on PlayStation last year.
Velocity 2X is a kind of hybrid game that sports both ship-based, top-down shooter action with side-scrolling puzzle platforming. The recipient of numerous awards, the game received some stellar reviews at launch in 2014, so news of its imminent arrival on Xbox One is to be celebrated.
The announcement is something of a surprise, however. Futurlab has long enjoyed a strong relationship with Sony and PlayStation and has never worked with Sierra before.
"Self publishing is HARD," said Futurlab's James Marsden in a blog post, explaining the collaboration. "I spent more time doing PR and marketing on Velocity 2X than I spent designing levels. I became a bottleneck for the whole project. That was far from ideal.”
Marsden added that Futurlab will work with Sierra on future projects too. There's no release date for Velocity 2X on Xbox One yet. I've slapped a trailer for the game on PlayStation below.
