nfs mw the original pre criterion outing was a reasonable game

it had a few good chase bits in and was a 1000 ach attainable above average racer

Now that the folks responsible for the amazing Burnout series make the NFS stuff I had high hopes

But their first attempt at this EA franchise was very poor and so rubber banded that it made every race utterly pointless and so my fears for MW were tingling before I booted it up

Anyway the new NFS MW is an amazing game

Its amazing how you can take a dev who nailed thrills and spills with Burnout, an established series like NFS, a world modelled on a bastard love child of Burnout Paradise City and Hot Pursuit and a shed load of supercars and turn it all into a complete pile of shit. At its roots it feels like the first 360 Burnout game Revenge but somehow they have taken that title I loved and extracted all the fun and skill and replaced it with rancid cock sputem and dog phlegm

Amazing

Its disjointed, and annoying in nearly every aspect

Too many pop up cars right in your way on races, too much puerile police band chatter that just grates after 2 minutes, a night and day weather system that changes every 15 seconds so its nearly always dark or rainy, controls that make the cars seem so floaty that you are not in any real world feedback wise, a selection of options that overwhelms and underwhelms at the same time and not forgetting the supply of extra strong rubber bands which plague everything Criterion now do

You end up just driving around swapping cars that you try and upgrade in a most haphazard fashion and when you do end up in a race you are subject to the fuckery of some pre race video clip that even when you skip, still means you are wasting valuable enjoyment time. They must have liked Borza for that addition. You get pissed off with that stuff even more as you will find yourself restarting events over and over and over because of the shitty way everything is in the way.

The dynamics of the driving are also cock as you can Lighty love tap a driver into the wall only to have him catch you up 5 seconds later. Opposing cars vary from being made of feathers to being made of lead and most of the times its the same car just two corners later.

Its just all shit and grindy and shit

How a great dev can be reduced to ruining its own greatness is beyond me. Next stop for criterion is surely Nintendo

Fuck this game and the horse it rode in on

2/10

Shocked

I actually quite liked it.

But you do need to level up cars before you can win and the races can be hard until you learn the routes.

well on kent and rogues say so I played another night of this

I will raise my score to 4 as once you get the stronger bodywork upgrade at least you can brush past a tree without exploding

the rubberbanding is still my biggest gripe but I must be in a minority that hates that with a passion

Still hurts to see blatant ports of sections of road from my fave driving games being used so poorly here

and I think I may weep if I open the wrong menu anymore times

seriously ea games have too many fucking options

then again I could just be an old miserable twat

I like the way you can easily race the same race again without driving back.

Also the quick upgrade system.

I agree with you about rubber banding, but if they didn't use it then us plebs would either come first by a clear minute every time or if you race like Riled 2 mins clear or race like Lighty 2 mins behind the pack every time Laughing

So the banding always keeps it close even if your abit Riled or abit Lighty.

True story pirat

I thought it was a pile of shite too. Mostly for all the same reasons Everton has stated. I really enjoyed maxxing the original though

the game is a controller smasher but as Kent states the thing improves as you upgrade your vehicle

I found it coming closer and closer to the burnout revenge 360 title as I progressed through

In burnout there was one long race that took me a 100 goes to beat and the same thing was present here

If you play this and try and get the top place on the race Needle Point you will feel my pain
Never has a title made me swear so much lol
