Trine 2 - Mini review Trine2logo

Name of Game: Trine 2

Style of Game: Puzzle Platformer

Story: Save the world with a twist. Three unique characters – a knight, magician and a thief/rogue, each with separate abilities and skill trees which can be utilised in different ways to progress the game.

Graphics: Stunning, vivid scenery that ‘wows’ with each new environment. Hats off to a very colourful game and one of the most beautiful gaming experiences I’ve had the pleasure of playing.

Sound: The sound presents a curious feel to the game, with the background music being more ambient than anything and inspiring a sense of adventure.

Difficulty: The levels start off with light puzzles - however, towards the end the puzzles and timing of platforming can be fairly tricky. Utilising the different characters in single player and/or co-operating well with one or two extra players can reduce the difficulty significantly.

Achievements: All achievements are miscellaneous and very easy. They can all be obtained by the 4th level (there are 13 levels altogether) although it may be easier to meet the requirements at a later point in the game.

Brief thoughts: Although this genre of game is not often one I’d choose to play, I must say I was pleasantly surprised when playing through Trine 2. The puzzles are cleverly thought up and the jaw-dropping visuals keep the game fresh with each passing level. I found I got bored after 3-4 consecutive levels, but would relate that to my personal issues with the genre rather than the game itself. I did, however, find myself eager to continue after a short break. Worth the purchase (even at 1200MSP) - especially if you have a couple of friends who are up for co-op to enhance the experience.

Overall Score: 8.5/10
