Xbox 360 - 2TB Hard Drive Support Incoming

Microsoft has announced that support for 2TB hard drives is coming to the Xbox 360 preview program, ahead of a release for all later this year.

"The next update for Xbox 360 Preview Program members will allow the use of 2TB hard drives to store Xbox 360 data," reads a post on Major Nelson's blog. "If you are not part of the Preview program you will get this functionality later this year. In addition we will also no longer reserve space in advance on your hard drive. If you are using 16GB of hard drive space for games – we will only take 16GB of space. And just like today – you will be able to use two external drives at a time."

Microsoft adds that, "Some drives may be incompatible or have performance issues. If you already have space reserved for storing Xbox 360 data, you will need to clear the Xbox 360 storage to gain full access to the drive. If you are in the Preview program, please review the list of known issues before formatting your drive."

That is awesome news as I have to delete everything I play at the moment as my 250gb drive is rammed full!

Hurrah! Games with gold was killing my hd space! Now I won't have to delete stuff!

I am going to try and get a drive that is powered by USB if possible.

Can recommend the Samsung m3 series from amazon. Got 2 one for pc one for the XO.

about time they realized that giving games for free taking a sizable 7GB every two weeks ( I hear on the xOne they are much larger) is going to drive people to the limit. I am also taking a wild bet here that they will start selling Microsoft branded HDs which will be 100% compatible ... what a rip of those 16GB MS branded flash drives were....

If it is the same as the Xbox One's External Drive stuff then any USB external drive will work as long as it is not over 2TB.

Most of the One's GwG have been 2GB or less as a lot of them have been ID@Xbox games. The issue with the One's drive size is that every game needs to be installed and where a lot of the modern games come in at 40GB + that is just too small for anyone other than the most casual gamer

I bought a 2TB drive using Flubit on amazon for about fifty quid.

Wonder how long until the patch drops?

I got the patch yesterday and I am not part of the preview program so heads up guys, its here.

Bought a 2TB ultra thin , usb powered HD from Amazon for 70£ this morning, I'll give it a whirl when it gets here in 4 days.

I have a 500Gb drive somewhere that'll probably do for this. I need to find it. I only install games when buying them on demand or when I'm actually playing them, so it'll be more than enough room.

All is working well.

Only thing is I seem to have to manually change the save destination each time, not sure if there is an option for this or not??

Think this is down to each game and the OS automatically assumes that you only have one HDD if they haven't added one with this update
