Xbox Japan boss to leave his position

Post  Colne Crusader on Sat Nov 29, 2014 5:30 pm

Takashi Sensui is to resign as head of Xbox Japan on November 30.

Sensui joined Microsoft in 2002 as director of marketing for Xbox in Japan and was promoted to general manager of the division in 2006.

He'll remain a Microsoft employee though as he's to take on the role of general manager for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft's Redmond HQ.

Following Sensui's resignation Xbox Japan will be jointly headed up Yoshinami Takahashi, Consumer and Partner Group general manager, and Nobuyoshi Yokoi, head of the Consumer and Partner Group retail business.

Sensui admitted in October that Microsoft was dissatisfied with underwhelming Xbox One sales in Japan.

The company shifted just 38,461 Xbox One consoles between launch on September 4 and November 23, according to data from retail monitor Media Create.

That's significantly lower than initial Xbox 360 sales, which totalled around 62,000 units in the system's first two days of availability back in 2005. The original Xbox sold around 123,000 units in its first three days in Japan in 2002.

Well the home console has always been the Sony Playstasion, same way the xbox sales in the US are the highest globally. Xbox beating the Playstation in Japan is never going to happen and Microsoft knows this and has said so many times in the past. I am sure its not Sensui's fault and hopefully he has a brighter future ahead Smile

Yeay!!!!! A response! Razz

The attitudes and habits of Japanese gamers are far removed from those in the west. I'm sure I posted an article about this once! Hmmmmm! Can't remember. Can't ever see Xbox being big there. The Playstation has always had better library of games for the Japanese consumer.

Ha ha , didn't notice the time scale on this post. I think I just click on unanswered posts or something.

Having a small knowledge of the Japanese way of life, as long time aficionado of their culture, I have to say that the xbox thing is more of a loyalty thing. And I admire them for it. Sticking with your country's national products says a lot about them I believe. I guess nobody is more proud than being Japanese than the Japanese lol.
