Massive day 1 patch for Master Chief Collection!
Halo: The Master Chief Collection takes up so much room on its 45GB Blu-ray disc that you'll need to download a 20GB day one patch.
In a new blog post on Halo Waypoint, developer 343 Industries acknowledged the "large" download size but explained that it had not wanted to "cut corners" to try and cram everything onto a single disc.
"From the start, our philosophy has been to give Halo fans the best possible experience and not compromise the quality or features of the collection," executive producer Dan Ayoub wrote.
"The result is that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will take up almost all of the usable space of a single Blu-ray (45 GB), and we will also issue a content update at launch that is estimated to be 20 GB.
Each of the campaigns will be playable while you're downloading the day one patch, 343 continued.
"You'll be able to start playing Campaign and more as the content is installing, with some features and multiplayer content being added via the update. Yes, the update is large, but we weren't about to cut corners to save disc space.
"This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in. Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimise the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch. This will continue right up until launch day."
But if you pre-order the game you'll be able to auto-download the patch pre-release, Ayoub has confirmed via Twitter
The Master Chief Collection contains Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, the newly-remastered Halo 2, plus Halo 3 and Halo 4, as well as every multiplayer map ever released for each game and a sneak peek at Halo 5.
The 10-episode Halo 4 co-op experience Spartan Ops will also be available - but now in December, 343 explained. Extra "technical enhancements" are required to get the content working "smoother and even better than before", but all episodes will be available at the same time.

Re: Massive day 1 patch for Master Chief Collection!
I used to enjoy games on my c64 which came on a beep boop cassette
The coders even managed to cram in a loading game to play whilst the tape fed the c64 with enough data to play the real title
Seeing a dev say that they could not cram everything on to something that holds 45GB makes me think that somewhere down the line an attitude of total arrogance and laziness has creeped into the industry when it comes to optimizing routines
65GB for a release is just taking the piss. Making me pay for grabbing 20GB of that is taking that same piss and pouring it over my cornflakes
At the very least they should be made to provide people with the option of the data on a free disc
Utter fucking madness

There is also no need for a 20GB patch if it can't fit it onto one disc put it on 2, a patch this size is troublesome considering a lot of people are still capped with what they can download and have to pay over the odds for any more that they use. I know a lot of people who have a cap of 10GB per month. This sounds like they wanted to save manufacturing costs over the convenience of their customers.

Re: Massive day 1 patch for Master Chief Collection!
That does seem a shocking amount of storage, especially as I'm sure alot of people struggle for storage space, I know I do! I had to delete a load of stuff to allow me to play Destiny lol
Re: Massive day 1 patch for Master Chief Collection!
Hopefully I will have enough space to install all this, as haven't got round to getting an external Hard Drive yet for the Bone

Re: Massive day 1 patch for Master Chief Collection!
Yeah. This leaves a bad taste in the mouth if you ask me. Like a Bukkake session with asparagus eaters. (Or something)!
It smacks of contempt. The internet infrastructure is still quite primitive in areas of the UK, and many people are still capped as already mentioned above.
The other point is that many people won't know about this patch until they purchase and boot up the game. I imagine there will be no warning on the packaging or at point of sale.
Poor old Timmy is gonna be upset on Christmas morning.....
