Skylanders Portal of Power question
Question:
Are the Spyro's Adventure Portal of Power and the Giants Portal of Power the same?
Here is the deal. I got in on the recent Skylanders deal on Amazon where I got the Giants Starter Pack for a tenner. When I looked into it a bit more, I thought I might well enjoy this game quite a bit, and for the sake of completeness and my chronological order OCD tendencies kicking in, I decided I must play Spyro's Adventure first. So I took to eBay and managed to bag a preowned copy of the game with a portal of power and about 12 Skylanders for £14, which seemed pretty decent.
Now I have two Portals, but I don't actually want two portals. Can I use my shiny new Giants one for everything I could use the Spyro's one for? I would like to get rid of the Spyro one if I don't need it.
I Googled it and some people were saying that the Giants one is usable but it has to be plugged in before the console is turned on, whereas the Spyro one doesn't. However I looked in the booklet for Spyro's Adventure and it said to plug it in before turning the Xbox on anyway!
Also I haven't had the Giants one out of the box yet - is it bigger or decorated differently? Or does it behave in a different way? I want to make sure if I get rid of one I keep the better one!
I am thinking I can safely get rid of one, but would anyone like to clarify this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Skylanders Portal of Power question
I have no clue about your problem but I am playing the Giants version.
I bought 11 extra figures at £2.50
How many figures you got in total now??
Knowing you I will guess just the 3 free ones on giants right??
Good job you can use all your spyro figures, Plus they might already be levelled up!!

If I didn't know full well just how cheap I was, I would be offended.KENT HAMMER wrote:How many figures you got in total now??

I bought 12 for £2.50 each at the same time as the Starter Set actually! Total of £40 for the game, portal and 15 Skylanders seems pretty good to me. I might be cheap, but I am also a bargain hunter - if there is a amazing deal to be had I will probably not be able to resist it!
So yeah, I think I now have a total of something like 27 Skylanders. Which is probably more than I need. But I do have two copies of Trigger Happy, and both series 1 and 2 veriants of Hex and Eruptor, so will probably sell those three.
They were all at varying levels, but I loaded up the game and reset them all yesterday as I'd prefer to start afresh. It also feels like cheating to nick someone else's levels.KENT HAMMER wrote:Good job you can use all your spyro figures, Plus they might already be levelled up!!

Re: Skylanders Portal of Power question
As far as I am aware mate - you need portal 1 for the first game and portal 2 for giants - i think the giants portal works with the first game as all of the characters are forwards compatible so you can take them from game to game.
worth trying though

Re: Skylanders Portal of Power question
I think the portals are the same. I had the original starter kit and the Giants booster and everything worked on both games. I'm assuming it'll work the other way around. Swap Force was the first to require a brand new portal.

Re: Skylanders Portal of Power question
Thanks for the responses. Looks like I will have to bust out the giants portal to test it before getting rid of the spyro one then...
